Hello,
I'm looking to buy in-wall front speakers (vp100 and m22) for my surround sound system. I was curious if it is possible to install these speakers on an exterior wall with insulation and vapor barrier within? I don’t really want to cut the vapor barrier as it will compromise the protection. As I’m doing renovations on the wall where the speakers are going to go could I build a box around each speaker in the wall and the vapor barrier to the outside of the box?
If you have any other suggestion they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

Hi Keith,

The speakers can be installed in an exterior wall without issues. However, you might need to cut your vapor barrier to remove some insulation if needed because compressed insulation looses its propreties. You can patch the vapor barrier afterwards and, properly done, it will not compromise its efficiency.

Would on-wall be an acceptable compromise?

Thanks for the information. On-walls could be an acceptable compromise; I just thought in-walls would look better in the room where my TV is.

One more caviat. In-walls would probably sound better since there is more cabinet area.
