Well people I am looking for some honest opinions. I know there will be some bias but I am trying to decide between an Epic 80 OR an Aperion system with their new towers. Cost is approximately the same for both systems and there have been stellar reviews for both companies products.

my current set-up is about 90% home theater or more and I am looking to improve this experience over the crappy Bose AM15 hooked up to my HK AVR520 (I know any other brand would be an improvement!)

So why should I buy Axioms?

Hi Steve. The simple answer would be to tell you they are terrific speakers. Rather than do that, let me suggest you spend some time wandering around in the forum and reading postings. Also, get on over to the Speakers section of AVS Forum and the Axiom forum at the SPOT.

At the end of the day, your ears will be the decision maker for you. The big kicker is to see if you can find some Axioms locally to audition and you can start that quest by looking here . If no one looks to be close, drop Amie an email and see if she can find someone for you.

Whatever you decide, it will be right for you.

As always, Ray's advice is sage. Or Marjoram. I forget.

Anyway, do a search for Aperion on these boards. It seems like there have been H2H comparisons, but obviously not of their new tower line. I have not heard the Aperions. My understanding from what I have read is that they have quite a different voice than Axioms. Some people prefer it, some do not. Axiom speakers are often compared in timbre to Paradigm.

Obviously, the people who take time to frequent these boards are happy Axiom owners. I am absolutely thrilled with mine.

Thanks for the input so far...
I am leaning towards the Axioms but I'm about 90% sold on them. Some initial considerations is the fact that my wife likes the design, and despite the size of the speakers, there should not be any placement issues in my TV room. However I only have 204 square feet of space in this room but I usually go with the addage of bigger is better!

Ultimately since this is intended for HT use, I am looking for a great soundstage that can handle movies like LOTR & the Matrix.

I have not heard the Aperion line of speakers, but they seem like a good deal from what I read. However, I think you should go with Axiom. Given that your intended use in almost only home theater, the surround speakers that axiom offers, the QS4's and QS8's, are far superior for surround sound use than are direct radiating speakers, which is what Aperion offers. I recently upgraded from direct radiating rears to the QS4's, the improvement has been dramatic. You literally feel like you are in the movie and not just watching it.

I followed the advice and looked through message boards. After delving a little closer into the consumer reviews, I think I am going to get myself an Epic 80 System. Now I just gotta wait 2 days for the $$$ to clear to my account (how excruciating!)

Steve,

I'm not familiar with the HK receiver you mentioned. Just double check to make sure it will handle the 4 ohm load from the M80s.

The HK AVR520 is the second-generation predecessor of the current 530 model. I'd be flabbergasted if it had a problem with the M80 load.

But a 204sf room seems a little small for the M80's; you might be just as happy with M60's in that size space. Talk to the folks at Axiom and they can advise you.

Aperion products just look cheap compared to Axioms. They do not have all of the great engineering you see ni Axioms. No quadpolar surrounds, and their centers look extremely weak.

Powered towers are better for Ht, unless you get a Sub. If you get an SVS, HSU, or Axiom 10"-12" sub, you will have better HT performance than those towers' 8" subs easily.

The M80s have 6 drivers. The Aperion has only 2, it does not seem to me that there is even a contest between the two speakers.

Go Axiom all the way!

I was thinking that too (re: square footage) but the room open ends into the kitchen. Because i live in California the floor plans are very open and rooms are not closed off unless they are bedrooms.

Someone had a good point in saying "what if..." meaning if I settled on the m60's and was always wondering how better the m80's are, would I always be wondering "if I had only upgraded."
