There are some very positive things coming out of spring training right now on some players that I have question marks about. But overall it's way to early to say.

However, one key thing the Jays failed to do this off-season is get proven and consistent protection for Bautista. IMO we really dropped the ball on the Yu Darvish auction out of Japan.

Some players which need to start to show some consistency is young guys like Brett Cecil (#3 or #4 SP), Travis Snider and Eric Thames (who will be fighting for the final starting outfield). Our bullpen has really struggled in recent years (the irony is those guys were the key piece to the Cardinals playoff run) from the Colby Rasmus deal. I really don't know much about our new closer Sergio Santos.

We are a decent team but making the playoffs when you have the Yankees, Redox and one of the most competent organizations in baseball - Rays it's always going to be tough. The Yankees actually made some brilliant moves this off-season picking up Pineda whom we have always struggled against, and now we have to face him in the division. That sucks. Personally, I think the Yankees will win this division.

I'm not a big baseball fan at all. I'm a bit like Cam. I enjoy it in the great outdoors (hammered or sober) but I find the pace unbearable on TV. However, I wouldn't begrudge the very passionate fans that it has more entertainment if they want it.

I'll tell you what. I'll support extended baseball playoffs if you change your current Avatar. It doesn't offend me at all, but somehow it makes me like baseball even less.

That won't happen anytime soon. Maybe on opening day.

I used to mute the audio and put music on. A good solid 3-plus hours of tunes.

From Tom Verducci

Quote:
There is a possibility that a team could face four games in four cities against four different opponents: in order, Game 162, Game 163 tiebreaker, Wild Card Knockout Game, Division Series Game 1...That puts a premium not just on winning your division, but also on posting the best record. The team with the best record -- while getting three days' of rest to line up its rotation -- will draw an opponent that will have traveled overnight and used up its best available pitchers just to get into the LDS. Big advantage.

Leave it to Bud Selig's MLB to come up with the most convoluted, ridiculous playoff scenario of any major sport.

the only positive I can see from this, is to have the actual division winners mean something. Before, with the 1 wild card berth, the wild car was on the same level as a division winner, the 3rd seeded division winner. Now it makes two wild cards fight it out to get to the playoffs. I still dont like it, but its interesting to see what effects it will have in the playoffs. The last couple of years, the wild card has won the world series, i wonder if now, with them having to use/waste their #1 pitcher in the wild card game, if it will severely hamper them in the short 5 game series.
