CV:

We watched The Avengers Blu-Ray last night. The sound overall was not 'over the top' as many action movies are these days. It tended to be quieter than the norm today but the dialogue channel was great & there was lots of LFE when required.

If I hadn't heard about this perceived problem, I probably wouldn't have noticed anything different...

Watched Interstellar again. Just as fantastic as the first time. The dialogue issue lots of people seem to complain about is totally intentional and created by the way it was captured it seems- not mixed. It lends to realism and perspective with the actor's positions on screen. When a character is moving around and talking their voice follows them. If they turn their back to the mic their voice follows. Totally fine. Great show.

Yeah, I was surprised by Interstellar in the theaters (the dialog) enough to look into it as soon as I got back to my hotel (I almost exclusively see movies in theaters only when traveling for work).

Then, when I watched it at home after it came out on blu-ray, I knew what to expect and enjoyed it a lot more.

Too bad that Age of Ultron wasn't better though. The sound just seems like there are about 6 audio tracks that aren't playing in the mix. You get some decent dialog, some occasional low end punch, but a lot of the "ambient" noise is just plain missing.

I'm planning a double-feature of Death Proof and This Is the End for Halloween. What will you guys be watching? I wish I had Starz so I could watch the debut of the new Ash vs. Evil Dead series. Waiting until I can buy the episodes will be agony.

Gonna watch It Follows on netflix while we hand out candy. Saw a preview before watching exmachina last night. A really well acted unique story movie.

I gave my subs quite the work out last night. Put on the Tron Legacy movie. I will admit that I did watch it in 3D as it turns out my 3D glasses for the Samsung tv that I own works fine with my new Panasonic. I wanted to test it out to see if or how they would work.

Turns out as well that the glasses do cut the brightness quite significantly so for 3D movies, I am better off using the THX movie setting on the tv rather than the THX dark room. It amounts to the same thing with the glasses on.

There is quite a bit of low level atmospheric LFE in that movie. I am going to need to figure out the levels on the unit. For this movie, the subs were shaking the whole room. But it the levels are not turned up for music, the subs simply don't do anything and might as well not even be there.

I found that the unending, constant LFE in Tron was annoying after a while - and that's with a couple of 800s that normally are not irritating in their sound quality in any way.

If I ever watch it again, I'll probably leave the subs off...

I loved the constant drone in Star Trek, TNG. I miss it actually. The feel it added while watching, like you were on a ship in space, was memorable.

Perhaps I'm more easily irritated as I get older, ha!
