I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm in need of rear speakers to go with my m22 mains. Judging from the website pictures, the qs speakers have to be mounted on a wall since there is a driver of some kind on the bottom of each which probably shouldn't be covered. Considering the WAF factor I have to set one rear on a cabinet and the other on a makeshift stand. Would this make the qs line an impossibily?

littleb, take a look here:

The QS8s are sitting on plumbing couplings. The couplings are 2 1/2" high and made out of rubber. While they are not solid rubber, they are substantial and can hold the weight of the speakers. Also, being made of rubber, there is some dampening involved. The bottom woofers have more than enough room to breathe and the things sound wonderful. You can get them locally at a Home Depot type of store for about $4-$5 each.

KooL, thanks Ray. What a novel idea.

I'll bet wax toilet rings would work even better, having the added benefit of preventing leaks around the bass.

For a while I had my QS8s laying on their backs (so I wasn't covering/blocking any of the components) and it worked quite well. Initially they were sitting on bar stools so I could position them when needed. Then one was put on top of an armoir while the other still lived on the bar stool.

They are now mounted on the walls, but they performed quite well in these odd configurations for over 6 months. It was important to check SPL levels, but once done it was easy to remember where the stools went. I usually only use them when watching a movie (or HD sports event) and do my music listening in stereo.

So, all in all, it wasn't a bad temporary solution to have them on their backs with the "top" a few inches from the wall to give them some room to breath.

That's the best plumber-audiophile crossover joke I've ever heard. You don't happen to show crack when you bend over, do you?

Hey, what are toilet rings?? (at the risk of furthering scatalogical references. . .)
