Totally off-topic question, but I see you're from Northwestern Arkansas, so I have to ask. Have you been to the Ozark Medieval Fortress, yet?

Unless you are planning dock parties or rock concerts, you are way over thinking this.

In most rooms you will be drawing less than 100 watts even when you get into ear bleed territory.

No, never heard of it. Is it a real place?

But sometimes I watch movies at -5 or 0 output volume on my AVR.

Get the 160 if you have room for it. Or get the 180- you won't be disappointed!

-5 or 0 on the dial really doesn't mean a whole lot, other than you watch movies close to reference level. Like Fred said, most of the time you are barely using much power for efficient speakers to play very loud, with occasional peaks that might push 100 watts or more.

If you're bored, you can play with this power calculator for a bit. It will give you a good idea of how much power your speakers are using for a given volume. For reference, 85db is very loud and 95db is loud enough to damage your ears in short order.

Yeah, I did already. It just hasn't come and so I'm just trying to find something to do with my expectations.

It's totally real. I stopped by a couple years ago on a road trip. They're building a medieval fortress using tools and methods used during the time period when castles were being built. It's pretty fascinating and definitely worth a visit if you're local.

I need to check it out. If I do, I'll put some picture up here.
