ok, here's my setup

room 14'(W) x 18'(L) x 10'(H)
Front : M60v2, VP150v2
Side/Rear : Mordaunt Short Avant 903i x 4
Sub : SVS PC12 Plus

I have the Mordaunt Short Avant 906i (floorstander) and the MS 309i subwoofer in the living room. Since we seldom switch on the surround system in the living room, I am thinking of moving the 906i to HT room as front wide and the 309i as a 2nd sub-woofer.

I would be losing the rear surround if I opt for the front wide as my Onkyo NR808 can only support 7 channels.

My questions:-

WOuld I appreciates the front wide sound vs rear surround sound?
How would the 2nd sub improve my LFE since the output of the 309i is day and night vs the SVS?
Would the MS sosound good with the Axiom?

Hi Mp

How big is your room and what are the distances and relative positions of the speakers positions from your main seating position?

I experimented with 7.1 in a small room where the rears were only a couple of feet behind the couch. I took them out as I did not find a noticeable improvement vs. the inconvenience of where they were located in a walking path.

Alternatively, I now use them in a much longer room with a lot more space between the rears and the seats and I am now more happy with the results. Adding rears is still not as breathtaking a jump as when you first add the 5.1 side surrounds but it is an improvement. I suspect that adding height and width will be similar. It won't be a huge leap like that first step into surround sound, but it could add an improvement.

I have no experience with height or width speakers but thought I'd add the relevance of distance to the rear conversation.

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

This is my view as well. Need a large room for it to be worthwhile.

the room is about 2500 cubic feet. sitting 13.5' from the screen, F/R is about 15' from seating, side surround are 8', and the back surround are 4' from seating.

and for the small sub that's only 175W and max can go down to 35Hz (optimum I think aroung 50Hz), would it be better if i place it at the back of the couch for the mid bass feel?

My room is 17'X18'X8'. Or 2,448 cubic feet, which opens to the kitchen, entry area, as well as the formal dining room.

I 2 EP600's.. This is about the output that i feel a room of this size needs... I have had 1 EP-600 since they came out. Adding the second 600 has been night and day for me in my room.. Not overwhelming, but the "appropriate" amount bass for the room. Almost like going from a system without a sub, to a system with a sub...

I don't know whether buying a pair of 600's is within your budget or not. However, it is i would highly recommend it. Maybe you could call Axiom and see if 1 800 would have around the same output as dual 600's.

setup my 7.2 system....and a 1st taste of Audessey DSX

the DSX does make the movie sounded more lively and a lot "bigger", feel like the sound are larger than my room....the audyssey set my M60 and the MS 906i at 40Hz...and I love the sound...should I increase the x-over to 50 or 60hz?

however, the puny MS309i could not catch up with low LFE from Hurt Locker, it just flap flap flap in the opening scene :p

I'd rather have the rear surrounds in play than the width channels, but my room is only 12' X 18'. If it were wider, then the width channels would have more of an effect. I find myself going back and forth between using the heights, width and both. Direct TV is horrible and it doesn't matter if it's HD or not. The way that DSX extracts information to send to the H/W channels is a mystery to me. When watching a BR movie however, it is quite enjoyable.
