Any thoughts, opinions, experience with factory refurb vs new receivers, Denon in particular?

I have a refurbed Onk. Many members here have purchased refurbs and I can't remember a complaint. It should still have a one-year warranty (instead of the "new" two). Can't beat the savings and you can afford more than you ought to.

Refurbished is the way to go if you're trying to save some bucks. In my opinion it would be safer than buying something used off of another person, or Business in most instantaneous. Most Businesses would treat this type of item ( used ) as all sales are final. Check out the company's reputation through customer reviews. Most business will give a 1 yr. warranty, on their refurbished product, if not you might want to steer clear.

I'm looking at the Denons at accessories4less, they appear to be a Denon dealer and seem to have a good rep on here. I bought a HK refurb about 6 yrs ago from HK and had no troubles til now, center channel went out, I never had a center speaker til about a month ago, it worked fine for a few weeks then lost it. I found a local tech who repairs HK, havent taken it to him yet but he told me on the phone that its not an uncommon problem with them and usually requires replacing the entire board, most likely better off replacing unit. Im taking it to him this week to get it checked out. I was torn between HK and Denon when I bought it so I'm thinking DEnon now. Any thoughts on last years Denon models refurb vs this years, like 1712 vs 1713? Seems like you can really get a great deal with last years models.

Mike, it's been said that factory refurbished units are, if anything, even more reliable than brand-new ones. Although I haven't seen statistical evidence on this, I tend to agree because of my personal experience with them.

Several of our members have dealt with Accessories4less for refurbished Onkyo and Denon models. As to the Denon 1712 or 1713, to some extent the 1713 can be viewed as a step down from the 1712. It's an 80 watt/channel 5.1 unit compared to the 90 watt 7.1 1712 and weighs about 4 pounds less. If your budget for this is about $200-$300, the 1712 with Audyssey MultEQ XT for about $230 from A4L here would be an excellent choice.
