I'ts been awhile since i've around these forums....

need advice on this

this is my setup (room size is approx 2000 cubic feet)14w x 22d x 7.5h

m80's v2
vp150 v2
2 pairs qs8's don't know which version
ksw15 klipsh sub
denon avr4802
paliser dual cinema recliner with speaker in headrest & butt kicker

upgraded projector already..epson 3010 with 106' screen

possible upgrades need advice on....

change amp to a 3d avr (anthem mrx 700??)
change vp150 to a vp180
sub.. ep600?

will the vp180 mix well with the m80'S v2's?
is there that much of a difference between v2's and v3'S

I would remove the vp150 on top put the amp stand in the center of screen placement & put the vp180 on top amp stand and the amp pvr bluray underneath the vp180

let me know your ideas on this

thanks

JBG, welcome back. More up-to-date receiver features would be good to have, but I'd give the center speaker a slight priority. Either the VP180 or VP160 should fit in your proposed location and should blend well, regardless of the small v3 differences.

Upgrade that system with some 10 year old Laphroaig. The rest of your system seems pretty solid.

Of course, I'm thinking of upgrading my Laphroaig with a VP180.

They're still there. East of Dwight, less than one kilometer east of the 60 and 35 intersection.

the VP180 blended perfectly with my M60ti's, an older version of speaker than your V2's... I don't see why a 180 wouldn't blend wonderfully with your V2's.

On a side note, the 180 was a HUGE upgrade over the 150.. You could maybe run dual centers?

Another vote for the center speaker first.

my advice is: change the receiver only if it does not have enough power or it's missing on some features you want.
an unnecessary change will not improve the audio quality.

what would change the sound quality would be for you to get a new sub that will go down to 16 Hz; it is good for music sometimes, but much more so for movies.
there is a world of difference between a sub that goes down to 25-32 Hz and another one that does well right down to 16 Hz.
THAT would make a big difference for your listening pleasure.

everyone seems to say the sub.. so what is the best bang for the buck.. SVS or HSU or ep500?

why I wanted to change the amp, it's missing HDMI for the pvr & 3d blu-ray

Earlier you asked EP-600, or two EP-500's. Most would suggest two slightly smaller subs, are generally better than one larger sub. By showing an interest in the EP-500, you might consider the EP-350 as well. Two of these would leave you with plenty of headroom in that 2000 cu.ft. HT Room of yours.

There is at least one 350 in B stock right now for $626, in black oak (I see from your pics you have this finish now) call Axiom they may have two. In worse case you might have to wait a bit for the second one. At $626 x 2 = 1252 that's less than the price of one EP-500 (1270). That would leave you with just under $1300 for that new AVR. This would be only one of several options that you could consider. Good luck.

Happy you're happy!

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Jay (jakewash) has compared the PB13-Ultra and EP-500. He's unfortunately not around as much, so you could try sending him a PM.

Inquiries about comparisons between the two aforementioned subs are quite common. Maybe one of the guys here will be able to provide you with a link to an old thread.

Peace

Johnk has 2 EP500's he may be able to give you some input..

Personally, I would recommend going with a pair of subs equivalent to the EP600.. If not the 600, the something similar to it from another company.. My room is 2400cu/ft. I can tell you that there was a significant difference between 1 and 2 EP-600's in my room...

if you look at the pic I have room for 2 x ep500's each side of vp180 or 1 x ep600 or ep800 on the right side

I think you have room for a horizontal 600 under your 180... Build a stand to hold the 180 over the 600, then move your equipment to each side of the horisontal 600.. Then, put the second 600 on the back wall to the left of the book case, and Done. That is what i would do, if my room was yours.

Or, you could go with dual 500's as well if you would like...

I'm sure you can tell i REALLY like my dual 600's... i will admit that i do have a very slight bit of skewed preference grin ...

You could one sub, try it, and see how you like it before committing to a second one.

It'd be good if your budget allows for two subs, such as EP500s or EP350s, but placement to minimize the effect of room modes is desirable to get the most out of them. This generally means the mid-point of the front and back walls or the mid-points of opposite side walls or in diagonally opposite corners.

Looking at your room pictures, there's a possibility that diagonally opposite corners would work well. The front right corner seems to have enough room, and if room can be made in the left back corner(the chair is blocking the view), that should be an effective setup.
