We are in need of a new washer and dryer. Anyone have any suggestions on a good brand or model?

David, LG is suppose to be a pretty good brand.

If you get a GE or something domestic it will e able to be serviced easier in the future.

If you go with electrolux, or one of the other european brands getting them serviced in Tulsa may be a problematic. I have a buddy who is an appliance repair guy, that said the european brands are a better machines. But, getting them serviced can be Problematik even in the Dallas area...

We just bought an LG set for around $1400 at Best Buy. They are very good quality and do their jobs excellently. I'm more than happy with the purchase. Consumer Reports lists them as their top pick, too.

Joe, what is the model number? A buddy from work is bringing the latest consumer reports in with washer/dryer recommendations.

The wife has wanted a new set for a long time now, but our washer finally started making some really odd noise so figured we'd speed up the process.

I'm debating between a front or top loading washer. My wife has her eyes set on a red electrolux washer and dryer she saw at lowes for $1000 each, hoping to spend less than that though.. we'll see.

The washer is LG WT4801 and the dryer is DLE4801. They were just under $700 each. They're really quiet, especially compared to our 20 year old equipment. It seems like the top loading washers are a lot cheaper than the front loaders. I understand the front loaders are more energy efficient, but it will take a long time to make up the price difference.

Aren't front loaders usually lower capacity as well?

Well good news is the washer stopped making that loud annoying racket. I don't think I'll need to rush into a purchase so will spend some time looking around unless my washer goes bonkers again.

I've read some people have had problems with the high efficiency top loaders not getting the clothes very clean... Something to do with the low water quantity.

The front loaders supposedly do a better job of cleaning with the lower water quantities. Who knows though...
