Hello Everyone,

I have been dreaming of owning a single family detached home for a long time now and wanting to set up a dedicated home theater room. My question is for those with professional installation experience. I want to be able to mount a projector on the ceiling and wires through the walls to make everything as clean and organized as possible. How much would I be looking to spend for a typical bedroom size installation? This includes speaker wires and the like.

So I am guessing that you want to hire it out. Can't help much there. Sorry. It is a very easy job when you can get full access to the area that needs the wiring run, it can be a whole other story if the area is finished, as I am suspecting is the case. I've "fished" wire all sorts of times, and many times it is easier to buy more wire than you think and run the wire in a "less than direct" path. That makes the job potentially easier, until you start running into length limitations.

Someone would need to be onsite to really get a feel for it since every job is different.

Yes, I would most likely want to hire out to go through drywall and all that stuff. I am not handy when it comes to those things and I am afraid to mess things up.

It depends on all kinds of things; slab foundation or crawlspace, interior or exterior walls, attic access or not, etc.

You're really talking about how much TIME you need to buy, and that's just going to vary from one installation - and one installer - to the next.

I learned to do things by actually just being brave and trying. Embrace the concept of "close enough". If it's your house, you can always pay somebody later to fix your screwups. It might be easier than you think.

Agreed, with the possible exception of seam filling. I can think of no other handyman job with such a skill spread between a veteran and a first timer. Still, everyone should try it once for the experience. Just like Buckley's Mixture.

Hey Seeking, where are you located?

Currently located out in Spokane Valley, WA and stationed at Fairchild air force base. Got two years left and looking to relocate to Seattle and buy a home there.

Absolutely.
Too many variables to put down a cost depending on the house and requirements of the client.
Our HT probably would have run us about 4k to 6k for complete construction (studs, drywall, insulation, wires, electrical carpet/installation, and wall finishing). It was an empty basement to start, the area about 16x18 if i recall.
That cost would not include furnishings or electronics.
