Hey guyz .

I know E bay sells a few junction boxes and wall plates but I am looking for a company that can supply me with all the gear needed to clean up the wiring in the theatre room . I live in the bush way way up North so I dont have the luxury of window shopping at electrical supply outlets . Most of my shopping is done on line and the wall plates and such seem a little difficult to find .Knowing that a lot of you already have dedicated theatre rooms , where can I find the plates or what company offers a solid variety of them for sale ?
Where did you purchase yours ?

Help Help

I used and had good luck with these two locations. They beat any Canadian source I could find, at the time, for price. Both also shipped very quickly.

Monoprice

Parts Express

I got my wall plates from Monoprice.com for everything.

I wanted them in black though, so I had to carefully mask things off and paint them with spray paint designed for plastic. I then put a brushed nickel surround around each plate. I thought they looked pretty sharp.

Hard to see in this picture, but almost all of my other ones are from after seats and everything are in.

Here is what I used for the back of my theater by the equipment:
8.2 Speaker Wall Plate $15.30 Painted black of course. I also removed the "8-channel" (rear center) and replaced the posts with other connections I wanted such as a "mono" headphone style connection for my IR Repeater line that went to the front of my room.

I used this for my front three speakers.
3 Speaker Binding Post Wall Plate - $4.48 also painted black. I put this into a 2 gang box with my sub 1 and sub 2 connections and the matching connection for the IR Repeater.

My rear and side surrounds don't have plates. They are just small holes in the wall to reduce the number of areas for sound to leak out through my sound dampening (nothing it really soundproof)...

Dak - room is mainly done and has been going through the paces very nicely. Still need to do baseboard trim (actually, the whole basement needs it), the crown moulding and rope lights need to go up, the movie storage shelves need to go in the back right area of that photo, and the equipment rack (using a temporary tack for now) needs to go into the area on the left of that photo. Then I need to still put up the fiber optic star ceiling panel (it was taken from my old theater - v3.0), and some acoustical panels for the walls not old for sound, but also to add a little more to the somewhat plain room.

Go check out my build thread here, or click the link in my sig. My web site for the theaters is really lame, but it gets it out there somewhere. Colors for the first 2 pictures on the web site are off a lot. I mean, the QS8s look brown and they are cherry, the walls are a richer shade than that, the seats in the "screen view" look almost a shade of purple, and the ceiling doesn't look so much like mud. Someday I will mess with some new photos a bit to get the colors better. Or maybe a 30 second video since the camcorder actually would capture the space a little better.

You guyz are the best . Thanks for all the links .
Now do I build to 7.1 specs or plan for the future and go with 11.4 or as much as 20.8 lol .
I am wondering if it would be in Axioms better interests to carry these ?
I am not going to start the theatre until the snow flies so I have some time to plan .
Once again , the links provided are far better than what I could find on E bay or anywhere else Ive been looking . Your assistance is very appreciated

It's always a LOT easier and cheaper to wire during the build process when you have access to the inner walls so now is the time to go all out and if you end up never using a jack, well no big deal.

Nick's question is valid, as too many speakers in a small room is probably overkill but as you have pointed out, new standards are changing the way we think about the placement of speakers.

My room is 12x23' and I prewired it for 7.1, although I have an extra center jack so there is one both above and below the screen. Also, I have multiple subwoofer jacks wired everywhere that you might consider them. Right now, I only have one sub but I have a desire for two subs to help smooth out some lulls in my room and I wanted to be able to place them where this works the best. Presence and other new speaker positions were not top of mind when I prewired but honestly, right now, I don't have a big desire for adding more speakers. Maybe in the future, if and when those new standards become more prevalent.

My room is dedicated to 20 feet wide and 20 feet long consisting of a pool table and the home theatre plus a hidden wet bar . trying to get the best of both worlds amalgimated into one room .This is why I went with M3,s for the rears .I play just as much music as I do blue rays . Sounds amazing with all 7 speakers playing . I plan to wire for 11.4 . This way upgrades are easier to wire .I do have the advantage of adding additional wiring in the drop ceiling . Pictures are coming
