fhw had asked this question earlier, but never got a reply.

http://www.axiomaudio.com/boards/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=tech&Number=34044&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=bipole&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=33950

So I'm asking it again. Are all the drivers in the QS series in phase or out of phase with each other?

One of the recent newsletters stated that all the drivers are in fact in phase, but previous posts on this forum state that the tweeters are out of phase, but the woofers are in phase. So which is true?

I'm sorry, I don't really know the answer to your question. But, should you fail to get an answer here, I suggest you just give Axiom a call. They'll know for sure.

Yes, SeanF,

that is the newsletter I read as well. However there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding. Were the QS's always in a bipole configuration, or has it changed? Up untill recently I was under the impression that the woofers were the only drivers in phase, and the tweeters were out of phase?

It doesn't sound like the QS8 are either since all drivers appear to be firing in phase but in four different directions (hence quadpole). I would suggest e-mailing Alan directly to see if he can answer your question.

Each QS4 and QS8 is basically two bipole speakers in one enclosure. All drivers fire in phase, so there's no cancellation of sound like you get with dipoles.

Hi bestboy4,

Yep. Peter is correct. All the drivers operate in phase on the QS4s and QS8s.

Awesome! Thanks Alan and everyone else for your replies. No wonder the QS's get so many good reviews. Bipoles are definitely the way to go IMHO.
