For those interested, Everquest II is going "free to play." That is when a subscription based game loses the monthly fee.

Why would they do that? It's the new trend. You play for free but they make a virtual, in game marketplace where they sell a bunch of very convenient items or 'entitlements,' like rights to play certain classes/races, for real money. So you could theoretically play the game for years completely free but you would be constantly tempted to spend real money to get in game stuff. In fact, you can still get into a monthly fee if you want to subscribe to certain in game features that become buried in one of several "premium" services.

I've been playing EQ II since it came out 4 or 5 years ago. In my opinion, it's by far the best MMORPG out there and me and my buddies tried them all. Running around a virtual world one or twice a week while chatting and laughing with your buddies is a great way to keep in touch with friends you might otherwise never see.

In fact, we will likely stay on the old subscription based service because we figured out that to recreate everything in the "free but buy stuff" model, we would end up paying more per month than what we pay now.

However, the biggest thing for us is that EQII was kind of the game where 'mature' MMO players went because it's the spin off from the very first successful virtual world, EverQuest 1 that started it all back in 1999. While the free model is great for those who just want to try a game out or otherwise can't afford a monthly fee, it will also likely mean that the free servers will become flooded with young, hoppy, chuck norriss joke spewing twinks who can't afford to play WoW. In fact, the average age of the subscription service should hopefully even go up a notch or two, making the $15.00 a month even more worth it's while.

Long post. I really just wanted to announce the Free to Play thing in case people want to try something new but thought some explanation might be in order as not a lot here are MMORPG players.

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Evony does the same thing. It's free, but they keep hanging the carrot in front of you to spend real money to advance in the game. I played Evony for a while, probably spent around $50 total. Now I just have a single city that's more-or-less maxed out. I visit it every day for the free amulet, but I don't know why I even bother anymore, since I'm not an active player. Just a habit I guess.

Go back through the hall to the warp portal that got you to the final boss, from there you can use two portals to take you where you want to go.

Just finished replaying Mass Effect with the same character. It was much easier to get through even with the difficulty turned up because of keeping the stats and weapons. The first time through I did most of the side quests though not all of them and ended up level 42 after about 39 hours of game-play. The second time I mostly stuck to the main quest line only doing a few of the side quests moving up to level 55 after about 20 hours of game-play.

I just restarted for the third and final time and plan to do everything I can with the intent of carrying this character over to Mass Effect 2 eventually 3.

I played it for a bit and it seems really cool. I only tried the trial.

It was pretty trippy and really sucked you in, especially with the surround sound cranked and the lights off.

Finished playing through Mass Effect for the third time with the same character. On the first two times through I pretty much just did the main quest line and a few of the random quests that popped up. The last time through I tried to hit most of the assignments but after reaching level 60 with all level 10 equipment by second to last mission I just blew through the rest of it. This was the most fun part of the game since I didn’t need to do anymore searching of crates for equipment and experience and was just able to play.

I found the Macco was much less annoying than scanning for minerals. Especially since I cheated and used the maps on the Mass Effect wiki to find the interesting stuff w/o having to drive around the whole map. I also used the infinite paragon/renegade cheat to max out both of them so I could make whatever decisions I wanted w/o regard to earning points.

I also finally realized that the sniper rifle is a kick a$$ weapon and also makes the Macco easier to use. Instead of shooting things with the Macco dismounting at a distance and shooting things up with the sniper rifle loaded with high explosive ammo rocks. Very cool to aim at a bad guys feet and blow him 50+ feet into the air. Also way easier to avoid incoming fire than with the Macco.

Got laid twice to boot, have to do it again in ME2 wink

I just started Mass Effect 2 with that character to play through for an eventual import to ME3.
