Can someone explain clipping?

It is when you turn the volume too high and there is no longer a waveform and the signal jumps straight across instead of making nice waves? Cause I think I just read something about clipping if you dont have a good enough amp/receiver to power speakers - If you dont have a powerful enough amp/receiver can you damage speakers?

Concerning your question, I suggest this: Go to the main index page. Click on "search" at the top and then search for "clipping" and/or "amplifier clipping". In the past 3 or 4 months, both Ian and Alan (and others) have made quite a few posts dealing with amplifier clipping compared to speaker distortion - how to tell the difference and why a low powered amp cam be more dangerous to your speaker than a high powered one. Spend a little time - learn a little, and if you still have a question, then I am sure somebody will try to answer it.
I'm not tryin to bust your chops here, it's just that there has already been a lot of info posted about it.
