I thought I would open a new thread for discussion of Axiom subwoofers in general, and the development of the next generation in particular. With all that has been learned during the design and engineering of the new amplifier line, it has naturally lead us towards looking at our subwoofer amplifier platforms to see what improvements might be possible. To do this is going to require a better understand of how you are using your subwoofers, and with what types of partnering equipment. So, I'd like to start off with a serious of questions which I'm hoping everyone will answer and share with us and the group. You never know, your answers to these questions might allow us to make some significant improvements to the future Axiom subwoofer line-up!

Now, on to the questions:

What Axiom subwoofer(s) do you own?

Where do you have the Level, Frequency, Phase, and Subsonic Filter (if applicable) controls set?

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)?

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using?

What are you using for your main speakers?

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer?

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofer?

Many, many thanks for your input!

EDIT: I am going to open up the survey to include ANY subwoofers, not only Axiom models, so please participate.

I also wanted to add that if you are not comfortable revealing the other aspects of your system, for whatever reason, you can happily send me a direct message.

What Axiom subwoofer(s) do you own?
EP500 (also a Polk 10" sub to be replaced by a second EP500 soon I hope).

Where do you have the Level, Frequency, Phase, and Subsonic Filter (if applicable) controls set?
Level 11 o'clock, freq is at highest (150Hz if I recall), phase 0, subsonic off.

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)?
RCA.

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using?
Denon 4311CI for surrounds (I have a 7.2 setup), 3 ch ADA1000 for VP150 and M80s.

What are you using for your main speakers?
M80

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer?
I calibrate with Audyssey. LFE is at 120Hz. I set the M80s as Large. I leave the trim at the Audyssey setting for the M80s but bump up my two subs by 6db.

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofer?
No. I have had problems with it in the past.

the above settings are mostly the same on both, so i am only listing them once.

Level- 12:30, Frequency-80hz, Phase-180 on one and 0 on the other, Subsonic filter-on

currently using RCA's, I tried XLR, and i believe Brent talked with you about this Andrew.. The gain on the XLR input path on the current amps is 6db or so lower than the RCA's.. The XLR input on the current amps is pretty much unusable due to the difference in gain, which results in a VERY reduced max volume.

I'll go ahead and answer these, but several of the answers will change as my addiction to upgrading continues to play itself out.

4x EP800

Levels are between the 8 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions. 150 Hz. 0º. Subsonic filter set to Off.

Receiver has two RCA subwoofer outputs, so one is feeding one pair, the second is feeding the other pair.

Onkyo TX-NR708

LFR1100

40 Hz for main speakers. LPF of LFE is 120 Hz. Trim level for front left is +0.5 dB, front right is -1.0 dB, and subwoofer is -2.0 dB.

I'm not using the triggers.

As I said, though, it's a moving target. I'll be looking to do a lot more tweaking when I move my system, and I do plan to upgrade my receiver within the next year, probably, perhaps back to a preamp-processor with XLR connections.

Also, I'm excited to see what Axiom comes up with for the next generation, even if I may have to sit it out.

Oh great! I just ordered two EP500's...

Well I can answer most of the questions even though I haven't received the subs yet.

2 x EP500
1pr M22's as mains

RCA, Denon 3808CI, Crossed at 80Hz, highly unlikely to use the triggers.

This is all GREAT information everyone!

Note that I have edited the original post to open the survey up to all subwoofers, not only Axiom models.

I am also intrigued and surprised that three of you have mentioned issues with the trigger. This is news to me, so more specific information on why the trigger did not work in your system would be appreciated!

Thanks again,

Andrew

When using the Trigger, the EP500 does not always wake up properly. The LED on the back switches from red to green however the sub output level is severely reduced. In other words it is working but at say 20% volume. The only way to recover is to cycle the power on the EP500.

The issue is intermittent and the last test I did I found that the issue occurred after 8 days with an average of 25 power cycles (i.e. turning on the home theater).

I have tried with two Denon receivers and an external Emotiva trigger box.

It's not a big deal as the idle power draw is real low (~10 watts) but it would be nice if it worked. Incidentally, I use the trigger on my ADA1000 without problems.

Andrew,
i got 2 subs: one PC12 Plus (Bash) and
one PC13 Ultra (Sledge) connected through a "Y" adapter at the AVR.

Levels: 12 Plus: 10 o'clock
13U: -12 dB.
The 13 Ultra is calibrated to output about 5 dB higher SPL than
the 12 Plus for the same signal input.

The 12 Plus is tuned to 16 Hz
The 13 Ultra is tuned to 10 Hz (2 ports plugged and HPF filter set at "sealed").

phase: 12 Plus: 0
13 Ultra: 180

Connection: RCA

AVR: Marantz SR5005

Speakers: M80
Xover: 64-80: can't decide which is best...

Trim levels:
M80: L: -3
R: -2.5
Subs: -6.5 (run 3 dB hot)

I haven't even looked to see if there are triggers anywhere in my system...

This is the same issue i was having... i discussed it with Brent, i made the decision to just let the amps idle as they were not "turning on" even though the LED was indicatig the circuitry had switched from off to on. i.e. red to green.... i verified the trigger being used was working by using it on one of the amps, the trigger in question works just fine. I was getting 0 out put though, not reduced output. As though the amp had not switched on at all....

I keep meaning to double check in the evening but I never do so here is what I can recall.

What Axiom subwoofer(s) do you own?EP500

Where do you have the Level, Frequency, Phase, and Subsonic Filter (if applicable) controls set?Level = 7-8 oclock, Frequency= bypass on sub, 80 on receiver, phase=normal

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)?
RCA

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using?
Denon 3608

What are you using for your main speakers?
Axiom M60

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer?
80 Hz all speakers.
Center +1.5, rMain -.5 rSuround -1.5, Sub -2
Note on my sub trim: This results in the sub running hot in most of the room but still a bit weak in my main seating position. If I try to even out the seating position, it's too boomy in the rest of the room. I blame the room, not the sub.

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofer?
No

What Axiom subwoofer(s) do you own?
=> EP-500

Where do you have the Level, Frequency, Phase, and Subsonic Filter (if applicable) controls set?
=> Level is fairly low (can't see it easily), all other parameters at defaults (no subsonic on my unit)

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)?
=> XLR

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using?
=> Anthem Statement D2v

What are you using for your main speakers?
=> M-80s

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer?
=> Mains at 60hz, subwoofer at 100hz (brickwall at 100 in my unit)

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofer?
=> YES, a lot

FEATURE THAT WOULD BE NICE:
Since I listen to a lot of SACDs that don't filter low frequencies, many recordings have annoying noises below 20hz. It would be nice to have a processor-controlled subsonic filter trigger (a second 12V trigger for subsonic filter would be fine).
Other wise some USB controls via PC interface would also be nice.

My HT is in limbo presently(darn renovations!)

I have a Paradigm DSP3400, I remember having it set at 1/4 gain, can't recall what it was crossed over at 40-60hz, run by Denon 2809 with M80s. One feature I really like is the auto on/off.

12:00 o'clock, bypassed (120), 180, N/A

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)?

RCA

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using?

Denon 2808

What are you using for your main speakers?

M80

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer?

80 Hz, Trim was set using spl meter and test tones. Sub trim was adjusted up until the signal going into my Feedback Destroyer was just below clipping at reference

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofer?

Yes, Great feature!

I use the Feedback destroyer for subwoofer EQ. Filters were set using REW. With room gain, I get a response flat down to 21 Hz (no low end boost)

Where do you have the Level, Frequency, Phase, and Subsonic Filter (if applicable) controls set?

Level 7/10 Frequency about 120 Hz - This sub has neither Phase nor Subsonic Filter

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)?

RCA

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using?

Denon 4802

What are you using for your main speakers?

LFRs

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer?

THX (60?)

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofer?

Yes it has an automatic trigger that turns it on when a signal is detected on the RCA

Many, many thanks for your input!

EDIT: I am going to open up the survey to include ANY subwoofers, not only Axiom models, so please participate.

I didn't get my answers properly highlighted so I'm giving it another shot as well as fixing a couple of mistakes from my original post:

What Axiom subwoofer(s) do you own?

Yamaha YST-SW315

Where do you have the Level, Frequency, Phase, and Subsonic Filter (if applicable) controls set?

Level 7/10, Frequency about 120 Hz, Phase Normal - This sub has no Subsonic Filter and likely produces no significant output below 20 Hz

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)?

RCA

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using?

Denon 4802

What are you using for your main speakers?

LFRs and VP180

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer?

THX (80 Hz) but with fronts (L/C/R) set to Large

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofer?

Yes it has an automatic trigger that turns it on when a signal is detected on the RCA. This is set at "Low"

2x Final Sound S95

The only signal setting is the Level control, it's set to 1/3 on both. No cross-over, no phase (I really like this, as those controls are in most modern receivers, and there's no reason to duplicate them in the sub with analog controls.)

The only input is RCA. The RCA output is buffered, and not just an internal Y, so there's no level loss when daisy chaining (but at the same time, downstream devices, like my Buttkicker, don't get a signal when the sub is off).

Pioneer VSX-1018AH receiver.

Axiom M22 mains.

The crossover is set to 80 Hz. The trim level for the mains is -0.5 dB and sub is +2.0 dB. These were auto configured.

The subs have a signal detect trigger, I am using it.

I hadn't heard of this, but I like it.

Along the same lines, I was thinking it would be cool to have a device that takes a receiver's sub output and splits it up to maybe six ways (for my own purposes, that's four subs plus two Buttkicker amps), but also allows you to set the levels independently of each other. Avoiding daisy-chaining and level loss, along with independent level calibration, among that many LFE-producing units would be my ideal.

It probably goes without saying, but if someone made a device like this, you'd want a remote control. For calibration purposes, you'd have the level controls for each individual unit, and for general use, you'd have the master volume level. While you could still take care of that one in the receiver, it might be easier to do on this remote.

This might be slightly off-topic here, but since we're talking subs, this might helpful to some who have trouble with sub hum.

I was able to largely quell my 2 X Velo subs' hum (I suspect was from my cable TV feed) by grounding the outside barrel of one of each sub's unused RCA jacks to the 3rd prong of the house power supply. It worked only if the plug in the wall socket was positioned 'just right'. If it was disturbed at all, the hum returned.

So, in frustration I tried changing that connection to the outside barrel of an unused RCA Input on my Sony XBR TV - voila, hum completely gone.

Thankfully, no more wiggling the plug in the wall socket...

Just a quick update on this: I've been tweaking my setup to get the best results with the LFR's now in my system (no DSP upgrade yet). I tried a somewhat unconventional approach to help my not so great sub extend the already low range of the LFR's using the killer LFE track on the "Master and Commander" DVD which has good content down to well below 20 Hz.

I realized that setting the sub's low pass filter as low as it can go - labelled 40 Hz - might help to focus all its amp power on the really low stuff. This way I can also bump up the volume without impacting music content.

This seems to have worked as with the sub on I can definitely hear and feel some low rumbles in the cannon battle scenes that aren't there without the sub (and didn't seem noticeable before my changes).

Coolness!

Now I may need to send my DSP back for the upgrade...

Well since I couldn't edit my previous post I'll just add it here since I just received my subs.

2 x EP500v3 - using a y splitter - RCA to my Denon 3808CI
1pr M22's as mains
VP 150v3
QS4's v2

All speakers crossed at 80 and set to small.

The subs I had to turn up the gain on the back almost half way to get Audyssey to hear anything from them. I settle on +2.5 for each sub individually when I ran Audyssey then with both plugged in and running Audyssey it set them to -.5 which I then upped by 2db to +1.5

I don't know why, but I'm excited about new versions of the amplifiers. If I can make my EP800s v4 by switching out the amps, I think I may be able to swing that kind of upgrade. I have trouble imagining a performance improvement, but half the fun of a hobby is wasting gobs of money on it chasing an impossible ideal. Right?

I kind of like the idea of a digital volume control instead of a dial, but I have no practical experience with one. Remote control would be nice, but like I said, I'd rather have a device that's designed to handle multiple subwoofers and tactile transducers, and then have a remote control for that one device.

Andrew, I know it's too early for you to really tell us what you're focusing on with the redesign, but I hope you don't mind my babbling. I figure it can't hurt to throw the ideas out there, harebrained as they may be.

I think there are several of us who are kind of wondering this, what a surprise right?... I was also wondering if our data has been helpful at all thus far?

I'm also planning a sub upgrade in the near'ish future. It would be nice to have an idea on what may be the horizon.

I believe it will have an new option.

A toggle switch that lets you choose if it runs in full mode where it acts as a localized EMP weapon or at half strength where your electronics don't have to be moved to the other side of the room but you will disrupt migritory bird patterns.

What Axiom subwoofer(s) do you own?

I am going to include my two systems and another two systems I have set up for my brothers recently.

EP800 and 2 F113 Fathoms

EP600

2 Velodyne DD-18s

Where do you have the Level, Frequency, Phase, and Subsonic Filter (if applicable) controls set?

9:00 on EP800, 11:00 on F113s, 8:00 on EP600 11:00 on Velodyne DD-18s

Phase set to zero and subsonic filter off on Axiom subs. All controls adjusted in receiver/preamp when possible. Except for Fathom parametric control at 25 hz and phase at 45 degrees. And Velodyne DD-18 which have extensive onboard parametric and phase control (SMS onboard).

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)?

RCA to EP 800, Velodyne DD-18, EP600
XLR to FL113s

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using?

Pioneer VSX42 with EP800/m22s
Integra 9,8 with Fathoms/M80s
Onkyo TX-nr717 with Velodyne DD-18/M80s
Onkyo TX-sr876 with EP600/Totem Arros

What are you using for your main speakers?

see above

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer?

50hz and -2 with M80s/F113s
80hz and -5 with M22s/Ep800
100HZ and -5 with Totem Arros/EP600
50HZ and -5 with M80s/Velodyne DD18s

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofers? Yes

Very happy with all systems.

Something to consider would be some kind of parametric equalization adjustment or slope adjustment in the 25hz zone such as can be found on the Fathom F113. This feature is very useful in many rooms for additional control of boundary reinforcement in the lower octaves.

If some parametric equalization is not possible, then perhaps consider reinstating the room trim adjustments found on the Axiom V2 subs. They were useful and better than no room adjustment at all. One last thought is that high level inputs are somewhat antiquated especially in modern HT systems so I question whether they should be continued.

drool... would love EP800s but it would be impossible to sneak those past the big boss. My usual tactic of just replacing my old speakers with new Axioms on the sly works pretty good cause the wife doesn't pay too much attention to my toys. I don't think that I could swap out my 10" Polk sub for an EP800, that, she would notice no matter how dumb I act frown

Seems to be quite a few Onkyo owners in the crowd.
I thought most people were hot on Denons for the longest time but i actually don't personally know anyone who owns one.

The next generation subs should offer 15" and 18" drivers, as well as incorporating some sealed units.

Looks like I'm the only one using 'High Level Inputs' with my Axiom sub.

Not having these inputs in my audio only, tube-amp system unfortunately would mean that another manufacturer that still includes them would win my next purchase.

I believe that 'High Level Inputs' should remain available for those who use simple amps without all of the fancy on board processing of a HT Receiver...

Axiom EP800

Phase 0

Volume 40%

Subsonic off

Crossover 150 (set at 80 on the processor)

Sherwood P-965 & A-965

Mains M80's V2 / VP-180

RCA Input

Using trigger, but have intermittant issues as stated by other members. Hard power cycle corrects condition, but is required frequently.

A suggestion I would like to see. I would love to see a cross over that is not hard set at a specific cut in/out frequency. I would love to see a feature that sees the crossover fade gradually over lets say 10hz.

What Axiom subwoofer(s) do you own? EP500 v2

Where do you have the Level, Frequency, Phase, and Subsonic Filter (if applicable) controls set? 6:00, 80 Hz, 0*, Flat

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)? XLR

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using? Emotiva DMC-1/MPS-1

What are you using for your main speakers? Axiom M80 v2

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer? 80 Hz, Large/Sub ON

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofer? Yes - w/ no issues.

What improvements would you like to see? I think the most common complaint I've read over the years about Axiom subs is price v. performance relative to other internet direct companies, so, in other words: reduced pricing.

What Axiom subwoofer(s) do you own?
Older EP500 (Build 10123?), upgraded to 1,000 watts. All settings below are for the original EP500.

Where do you have the Level, Frequency, Phase, and Subsonic Filter (if applicable) controls set?
Level: - Max
Freq: 150
Phase: 180
Sub Filter: On

How are you connecting your signal source to the subwoofer (RCA/XLR/High Level)?
RCA

What receiver/processor/pre-amp/integrated amplifier are you using?
Denon AVR 2310CI

What are you using for your main speakers?
JBL Studio S31211

Where do you have the crossover frequency and trim levels set in your processor/receiver for your main speakers and your Axiom subwoofer?
Mains: 80Hz
Sub: 80Hz

Are you using the trigger on your subwoofer?
Yes. It operated well until I inadvertently connected the trigger-out line (from the Denon) to the audio processor circuit. (That was an installation problem ... not Axiom). Resulted in upgrading the EP500. Would recommend Axiom consider some sort of breaker system for the audio processor that would sense over voltage and protect your very fine equipment.

Hoping maybe Andrew can comment....in a sub that uses opposed drivers, is it measured the same way as a conventionally designed sub or does it require some other method since the transducers are firing in opposite directions?

Adrian, hopefully Andrew will see this and comment, but my thought is that other than positioning the microphone equidistant from the two drivers, no special procedure would be needed.

JohnK is correct. The only change that we have to make from a measurement standpoint is to measure with a microphone at a point equidistant from both woofers. For a subwoofer in a 4-pi environment, like on our outdoor measurement tower, we don't need to be too concerned as the frequencies we are dealing with are omnidirectional anyway.

We've started putting a few lab pics up on Facebook showing the subwoofer development (https://www.facebook.com/AxiomAudio). Today was the breadboard shot:

Its a long shot but...
Why not add a the ability to controll each sub wirelessly?
Rather than tweaking through the reciever each subs output could be controlled through an app on a cell or tablet.
This would be for the fine controll you would otherwise have to set at each sub in the initial setup.

My $0.02 - don't really want to pay for that feature. I'm happy to get up off the couch and adjust individual sub gain in the unlikely event that is necessary. I mean really, once you've got your subs dialed in, how often do you need to INDEPENDENTLY adjust them?

Until I started reading older posts I thought my system sounded about as good as it could.
After picking up some good pointers it now sounds better.
It will sound better once again after I fine tune eachs subs output.
I thought it would be nice if it could be done from my chair.
Theres an app for nearly everything else, why not independant sub control?
Just an idea.

Well, the "why not" is that it would cost extra, add to the technical complexity and be rarely used. I don't disagree that - in a perfect world - it would be a cool feature. My objection is that - for a company like Axiom - adding that complexity would compromise the value proposition for little benefit in sales or usability.

In terms of volume adjustment, all I want is some demarcations around the dial. Then I can write down where I have it pointed and be able to adjust the vol on the sub at will without worrying that I'm screwing up the calibration.

I adjust my subs once during calibration and never touch them again. Demarcations around the dial is a great idea.

I agree to the demarking and ideally positive feedback from the dial confiming the fixed setting.
Axiom is already looking at the technology with their airplay speakers.
I find the adjustment to be very sensitve on my current subs. If a fixed value was displayed on my cells screen and I could change it from my seat I'd be happier.
Generally speaking I don't change the subs settings after they're placed. Having the choice from the convenience of my sweetspot would be nice.

I would prefer a way to adjust the sub's volume (cringe), that doesn't involve a knob on the backside, which is usually shoved up against something. Say, maybe on a side, with a knob that doesn't stick out far, like maybe a flush mount you'd turn with your thumb.

Good point, Brian. I've noticed that feature on a couple of subs where the gain is on the front...I like that idea.

I would agree with the idea that the controls would be preferable on the front rather than the back(I have a couple of old Yamahas in the house and they have always had that feature) but it just seems for years now the vast majority of sub manufacturers have chosen not to utilize this style of amp they build or purchase for their sub designs.

I personally, would want to carry it a step or two further in that, although probably more costly, there has been a few manufacturers that have remotes with "digital adjustment" of all parameters which, of course, rather than constantly having to get up and down, has the advantage of one being able to sit in the "sweet spot" to make all the adjustments. Also, because once adjustments are made the controls will probably never be touched again for awhile so with any manual(knob) unused control and as anyone here probably has experienced with older equipment that has been sitting around for awhile, dirt can potentially accumulate in the switch causing static and at times, eventually making it unusable.

I have a Nad processor that has a "volume" adjust for the sub. However, i also have a different processor that does not have this same "volume" adjust. It would be nice to be able to adjust the volume of the sub from the remote.. However, i suppose this could be problematic if you have muptiple subs, and not all of them get the infared signale... But, i suppose this is where the RF spectrum comes into play...

I would pay extra for this option.. But that's just me, and i seem to buy quite alot of stuff Ian and andrew come up with.....gr...

I like the dedicated remote idea.
Multiple sub controll from any seat in the house.
FWIW I found a nice method for adjusting my subs.
After my last adjustment rant I put on bass heavy tunes, rolled my subs forward, listened, waited. Each sub got adjusted to be just perceptable while I was hudled over them, essentially matching the M80 (+1) next to it.
Now I have all the sub I thought I was missing.
Its a bit messed up, I had to turn them down to reach their current settings.

Velodyne DD-15

Frequency/Phase was set using their setup mechanism (it ships with the microphone and there's a video out to see the curves etc.).

Level is likely around 1/3 most of the time. The remote allows different level sets based on what you're listening to. 1/3-1/2 is all we need for the room it's in. It's overkill but I got it for a killer price. The neighbours don't like it higher than that... pops the plaster off their drywall screws ;-)

XLR connected to an Anthem AVM-50 [equivalent... upgraded the guts].

Mains are Totem Forest.

Crossover at 80Hz.

Am not using a trigger on the sub as it senses input and auto powers. If that didn't exist, I would use a trigger.

I use Velo's remote to turn ON/OFF each sub & to make any other adjustments individually. Both subs are up front & are separated by about 8 feet; however, I just point the remote directly at each sub & the other one doesn't see the remote signal.

I have to do everything twice but that's no big deal...

Andrew,

A few easy questions:

1) Ball park... when will the next generation of subs be available (V4 I'm assuming)?
2) What are the basic improvements?
3)Will there be a trade-in (or upgrade) program for us V3 owners?
4) Any plans for a high performance sealed sub in a reasonable size?

Thanks

I doubt if this type of info would be available until Axiom is ready/close to release the new product.

Agree. I don't think those are "easy questions". Those are very specific questions about potential future products/policies.

I happened to notice in the online A/V publication "Canada HiFi" today(Dec. 10/2014) that Bryston is introducing a new "bipolar" subwoofer at the CES show in January/2015. It has a very distinctive Axiom influence in its external design, especially the amplifier on the rear of the cabinet. Any indication of such a design forthcoming from Axiom itself?

Do you have to match the mood of the music with the sub's mood?

I like the idea.
The model A series is ported, T sealed. I haven't compared images (haven't looked for the T yet).

The A is shown in a Bryston thread at audiocircle...

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=97007.1860

I am hoping that axiom will have one in time for my B-day. A dual ten would be nice, a dual 12 would be sweeeeet.

I tried an EP 500, my room is large and open to other rooms so it wasn't able to fill the space I had and I didn't want to have two of them so I got the JL audio f113. It does a very nice job for movies and with music.
