Local Kijiji for $225. Good deal? The big thing for me is the HDMI inputs, and HD Dolby/DTS decoding which I lack now.

I dunno. It doesn't have enough stickers on it.

LOL. I actually have a stack of Alpine stickers from the 80's that I could plaster across the top.

Refurbs of the 709 still seem to be ~$400-449, so I think that's a fair price. My 805 has served me well, although I wish I had the networked audio and more HDMI inputs.

Shawn, a belated 2/13 Happy Birthday. The 707 wouldn't be a bad buy, but if you could find a good price in Canada on the 709 with Audyssey MultEQ XT, the improved features would be worth paying a bit more. In the U.S. Accessories4less and ShopOnkyo have factory refurbished 709s available for around $400, but unfortunately they can't ship to Canada.

Thanks for the input, guys. (And thanks for the b-day wishes, John) I will keep an eye out for sales in the US. I only live 30 minutes from the US border, and there is a UPS retail outlet less than a mile from the bridge. I can have it shipped there, and just pick it up. Before Christmas, there is always a parade of Canadian cars in-line to pick up their packages.

Shawn, in that case keep an eye on the two sources mentioned above. The 709 gets my highest recommendation on a performance/price ratio basis. Availability and price fluctuate(often around $400).
