My 30-odd year old Craftsman 3.5/20 is still going strong & starts half way through the first pull. The pull cord breaks every 15 years or so, but it comes in something like 100 foot rolls so I can repair it for at least the next 150 years.

I got sucked into the "which lawnmower should I buy" black hole and lost a couple of months of my life. Kept coming back to the Honda HRX with hydrostatic transmission & pull start but each time I went to buy one it felt somehow wrong. Concluded that what I really needed was a garden tractor, so spent a while spiralling into *that* black hole and eventually picked up a used JD GT235 -- which I'm very happy with except for the fact that most of my land isn't sufficiently smooth to *use* it without tipping into the ruts & holes, so I'm back to pushing the old Craftsman up the hills & down the hills.

Sigh...

Slight divergence.

My lawn is slowly being overrun by thyme. My neighbors yard is already about 70% thyme and that is where it has been slowly creeping over from since we landscaped in 97.

People who are lawn snobs are appalled when I tell them this but I hope it overruns my whole yard. He hardly ever cuts his lower yard, far from the house as he likes the purple flowers but even then it never grows more than a few inches. If you keep it cut short, it just thickens into a soft, gentle carpet that's easy on the feet and smells great when you walk on it. Even then, it hardly ever needs mowing. Just when the flowers start to form.

If I had money, I'd reseed with nothing but thyme.

Sounds better than my yard, which is mostly made up of clover.

Ya but the crimson ones are cool, if not a bit repetitive.

and if you get that bit, you are at least as old as I am.

By repetitive you meant..."over and over"...right?

Half of communication is listening. You can't listen with your mouth.

I bought a craftsman self-propelled push mower back around the year 2000 and it only lasted 3 years before the wheels fell off because the metal that held the axles on broke off.
