Been lurking here for awhile after finding Axiom at HometheaterSpot.Com. Wanted to see what the opinions were on the following proposed set up. 16x25 room with 8 foot ceilings in the basement. Approx half of the room will be the actual sound area (pool table in the other half). Looking at VP100, M40s, and Q4s. I noticed there is not a lot of talk on the M40s. I was also looking at the M2s or M3s, but like the idea of floor standing speakers. Don't really want to go for the M60s that everyone here seems to have. Are the M40s okay to go with and how do they compare to the M2s or M3s? For a sub, I will go with Velodyne or maybe SVS. Use will be 90% TV/DVDs and 10% music. Appreciate any thoughts. Definitely a newbie when it comes to speaker selection.

You know why the school colors of UT are orange dont you?

So you can go to the football games on Saturday, hunt on Sunday and pick up trash the rest of the week.

You're right about there not being much talk about the M40's. Few and far between is mention for the M40, whcih in its own right is a great sounding speaker I am sure. What is your budget? That will let us help you a little bit more.

I think that's getoffb's way of saying welcome Vol. Here's a thought (a couple actually). My sense is that the M40s are going to have to work awfully hard to fill that space and make you happy you got them. I'm guessing that M60s are the right answer and the Qs4s/VP100 should be fine.

On the home page there is a Home Theater Wizard. Spend a few minutes and run through it. Also, and most importantly, call the Axiom guys. They are great to work with. They will walk through a selection process with you and give you the absolute straight skinny on the right speakers for you space.

Well, if you will ignore the orange jumper and the gun, I'll overlook the red on your neck.

Looking to stay in $1000-$1200 range for a budget.

Out of curiosity, why did you leave the M22's off of your first list? This is a speaker I can attest to the greatness of, and I still don;t have a sub.

Thanks Ray3. I had ran the HT wizard and got back M3s, VP100, and Q4s. That was why I was interested in a comparison between the M3s and the M40s as the speakers seem to have similar specs.

M22s were originally on my list, but I have gotten somewhat hung up on wanting floorstanding fronts. Guess they would do fine on stands. Have a couple of young ones running around and thought floorstanders would help with the disaster potential.

Gotcha. Theres a thread going around right now about ways to avoid disaster with kids around. Don't know if you have seen it yet or not, definately worth the read I guess.

Greetings,
For what it is worth, I have a similar sized room and originally went with the Epic 50 system minus the sub. It sounded fine. However, in the midst of my 30 day period, I was stricken with upgradeitis and the dreaded what if bug. I then went with the Epic 60 and STF-3 and haven't looked back since...
