Maybe this thread will go somewhere, maybe it won't. I'll start with this example of an early 90s Metallica song covered by a bluegrass band.

Great idea!

Here is an old, often referred to one, Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" done by the four cellists of Apocolyptica.

Not that I dislike the original but this really becomes such a beautiful song when you remove James Hetfield's growly voice.
I think even JohnK would approve.

Nothing Else Matters

Here's the same bluegrass band, Iron Horse, covering Guns N' Roses Sweet Child O' Mine

It works much better than Enter Sandman.

Been a fan of Luther Wright and The Wrong's "Rebuild The Wall" album which is a alt country/bluegrass rendition of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album.

You can likely find the whole thing on YouTube. Here's Young Lust - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7QJ48vQGMg

The difference in styles is not as dramatic as the examples given so far, but I've always enjoyed the Hindu Love Gods album. The band equation is:

Hindu Love Gods = R.E.M. - Michael Stipe + Warren Zevon.

Here's their blues rock cover of Raspberry Beret.

Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.

Cool thread. I wouldn't be fulfilling my responsibility if I didn't offer the link for the Flamenco version of Hotel California from The Big Lebowski.

Had to play this for Mrs. Classic, who immediately picked up her mandolin and figured it out pretty quickly. Then hopped on iTunes and purchased it, then sent the link to our niece who plays banjo. We may be taking this "Down South" thing a bit too far...

We have found THIS place and one of the bands I saw on a Tuesday (Bluegrass night) did several covers including Pink Floyd's "Time" - and it worked!
