Hey everyone,

I can't seem to find a page on the website that describes the differences in v3 to v4, I know they're supposed to have the newer tweeter as seen in the pictures. Is there anything else? Did they get the newer drivers with the larger voice coils? Seems like a large price jump for a speaker that used to be around $300.

I would give Axiom a call directly or pm Andrew or Ian.

The reply from Brent at Axiom, whom I emailed around the time I posted this, came through yesterday.

He did state the tweeter is new, no mystery there. But that there is also a new crossover, die-cast woofers. Any vinyl finish will not result in an upcharge and there's a 10 yr warranty.

I do recall a year or two ago 'designing my own' M3 and after selecting a custom finish and die cast baskets the price was certainly higher but I don't remember how much. Whether I'm in the mood to try this out or try a different brand remains to be seen. I love my Axioms but half the fun is trying new stuff!

There was no mention of voice coils or anything so perhaps those driver updates were reserved for larger speakers in the line, 80s 100s, etc.

Yeah, I asked about using the new high power woofers in the 2-way speakers in another thread -- I was wondering about the possibility of putting HP woofers in my M40s.

Consensus seemed to be that the HP woofers were only going to be used in 3-way systems with a separate midrange. Maybe the cost of improving low end performance is that they don't woof at higher frequencies as well as the regular drivers.
