Thanks pal... and you can find the specs on the ELT Cse... it has the same drivers/crossover as the ELT center channel... but is done in Rosewood... for comparison, look at the M22's in a high gloss finish...

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out over at av123.

Sent you a brief PM, but it occured to me you might not recognize the meaning of the little flashing envelope next to "Main Index" in the menu above the posts on each page. Click on it, and you should be led to your message page.

Just curious... whats the time frame before we'd hear some initial impressions?

Inane.. Great name.... I think the ELT's will be brand new, so, doing the timeline, they are scheduled to ship today... arrive by week's end... a couple of break in weeks... probably about the first of May.... Possibly earlier if the speakers break in sooner...

OH OH. Be nice fellas.

There is a general opinion at this forum, though there are dissenters, that speakers don't really "break in." Those who subscribe to that theory (and I hope I get this right), feel that what's happening is your brain is acclimating to the sound of the speakers. I'm on the fence. I simply don't know.

I do feel the M22s I've been listening to for a couple of months sound a better (different?) to me now. I haven't the foggiest idea what (if anything) has changed. But, I do believe, whether it's my speakers or my brain, SOMETHING has changed.

Ajax,
During Axiom's in-house, blind testing of 'broken' in speakers vs. a pair right off the line, they could not discern between the two. Very few (if any) others have done similar tests with the vast majority of reports on break-in coming only from a consumer standpoint, one that is easily explained by our neural behaviour.
For obvious reasons, testing this this would harder to do at home, unless you have the cash to order a brand new speaker pair just for fun as well as the time to properly setup and conduct an honest blind test. I think companies post more about breaking in components as a marketing tool since it is a highly accepted concept. It is blasphemy if you say otherwise as the owner of Mcintosh Labs once found out.

Alan can tell you more about this although he has already posted such thoughts in the past. If i have time to find the link i will post it again.

Thanks Chess. Do post Alan's comments if you can find them. I remember that he's talked about this subject a number of times, but I can't, for the life of me, find them.

One thing I try to do during testing speakers is to get insight from the manufacturer regarding things like placement... etc.... Break in is one of those items. AV123 recommends a fairly long break in time... but not while you are listening to them. You fire them up, leave them on, and come back in a few days. If the noise is a problem, just run a mono pink noise section, put them nose to nose, and wire them out of phase. But since you don't listen much during the break in time, it is not one's ears that are being "acclimated" in this case.

And this may sound harsh, but I don't care who wins this... if there even is a winner. I e-mailed to AV123 the results of the subwoofer shootout so they could post it, Home Theater SPot does not accept Word files... but if you get a chance, read it... it will give you a flavor for what I look for in a speaker.

I certainly do not think that statement is harsh at all.
Athough rankings are useful for individuals trying to decide between 2 items, or for companies working on new designs, etc. i personally prefer the reviews that actually discuss speakers/equipment qualities without ranking them. I think it is more useful for someone to read that Rockets may be more laid back while Axioms may be more forward sounding, as opposed to Rockets model BB scoring 9.7 and Axioms model YY scoring 9.4 therefore the Rockets "win".
Consumers should choose their 'winner' based on sound preference rather than an arbitrary number scale which inevitably will vary by personal preferences anyway.
Many of these sound qualities should become evident as more and more consumer reviews, especially those done as well as craigsub's, are posted for reading.

Chess... Thanks. Very well said. One side effect of all the subwoofer shootouts is that I have recommended every subwoofer tested to different people for different rooms, listening preferences... etc... Some guys here have already stated that hearing the differences between the ELT's and the M22's will be really easy, but blind testing will be done anyway... and hopefully two good companies will get a bit of a boost from this...:)

I still want to try a deaf listening test though... THAT would be a page turner !
