Kind of second guessing myself on the purchase, the reason I am considering 80's or even 100's are the B Stock store has them both for about $300 more than my 60HP's. I'd rather buy the right ones now than upgrade later. I'm new to all this so I am looking for help deciding.

Thanks

To further elaborate, I will listen to mostly music, some movies but rare for me to watch the tube, my listening area isn't huge but it's open concept kitchen, living room, dinning room, 6-7000 cu ft. I could stick with 60's and add a sub or buy the higher end 80-100 and not need a sub?

Back when I bought my M80s, I was able to directly compare various speakers at the Axiom factory. There was a subtle but noticeable difference between the M60 and M80 in the midrange and treble.

It was something you could hear if both speakers were on a switch, but if you listened to one in one room and then the other in another room, you would never hear the difference.

At the time, the difference between the two was about $400 and I decided the difference was worth it for me.

I think you will be happy with either speaker, so I guess it depends what you want.

Just saw your second post. A sub would be more noticeable with the M60 than an upgrade to the M80. It will make a HUGE difference for movies where you get significant output below 30 Hz.

With music, unless you listen to something with significant output below 30 Hz (like pipe organ) you will not be able to tell the difference between an M80 with and without a sub. I did that test in my room several times.

Here is something to consider. I bought my system mostly for music, but opted to go for a 5.1 setup. When I put my first music tracks on, I got a giant sized grin. When I put my first movie on, I think it was Lord of the Rings, my jaw hit the floor!

Given a choice, I would invest in the sub now and add a center and surrounds for movies (and gaming) as your budget allows.

Thanks Fred....I was just thinking if I got the 80 H.P.'s or the 100's (maybe overkill) I wouldn't have to worry about the sub.

Movies need a sub.

If you have time, go to an audio store (there are still a few around) and listen to a movie on a decent system in full surround sound. It really is an amazing experience. Even though I listen more to music than watch movies, the extra speakers are really worth the money.

Do the drive!!! They have a listening room set up where you can directly compare various options. You will never wonder.

Take a movie you like that has a good sound track and some music you are familiar with.

The factory tour is fun and standing in an anechoic chamber is an interesting experience.

I went with the 80 H.P.'s (B Stock store) over the 100's due to the amount of room the 100's require around them. I will be going up to the factory hopefully on Friday to pick them up, have a look around and visit the listening room.

Picked up my 80 H.P.'s today, did a listening test between the these and the 100's and I actually preferred the 80.H.P. The 100's had a bit deeper bass but the 80's sounded clearer in the mid to highs. Met Deb, Andrew and Ian and took a tour of the factory. Very impressive operation and it's really cool that all this takes place in our little corner of the world.

Well Fred, I am very happy with these M80 H.P.'s. They sound great and have enough bass for when the party takes off. I am using an Onkyo 838 AVR and it's sounds great to me. Thanks Brent for the help choosing my equipment.
