Hi Audiophiles,

Need some insight.

I recently ordered an EP175 v4 sub and its on a 10 day wait due to some custom spikes, grill etc. During this time, my friend advise I should have gone with the SVS PB1000 as it is around the same price and showed me all these great reviews. I know Axiom makes amazing speakers as I have purchase M3v4s and love them. My question is, should I go with the SVS PB1000 instead of the EP175v4? Does anyone have first hand experience with either of these subs and care to offer some advice?

I frequent many forums & find that there is way too much meddling in other people's business wrt on what you should spend your money. Furthermore, the obsession with peer approval is rampant out there. Judging from the ubiquitous threads that start every day ref 'I'm stupid - choose speakers for me', it seems that few can make their own decisions anymore.

Well, you made your decision to not blindly follow 'the herd'. I suggest that you try it out during the trial period & make your mind up then as to whether or not it fills your needs.

I have a pair of of EP400s & EP800s that of course are more higher end & find them to be superbly powerful, accurate & musical that encompasses the design philosophy & characteristic of the entire Axiom sub line. Rather than being built overseas, they are largely hand built over here & the prices reflect that...

I have the SVS SB 2000 and a PB 2000. They are good subs. Would I call them ultra high end, no, but for the money, they are a great value. I'm probably more impressed with my ages old HSU though. VTF3mk2. The problem with HSU though is cheap Chinese electronics. Which is why I switched to SVS which is also Chinese....lol. I make no sense some times. I believe Axiom makes a good amp, should be reliable.

I own a house full of Axiom speakers now, but for some reason, I never go for a Axiom sub. I don't know why that is. Price, other alternatives maybe, but I would really like to try one out. But I live in a odd spot, and shipping something like that back if I don't like it would not be cheap. That's probably the main reason there. I certainly have not read anything bad about them, but like others, I visit the "other" forum and you read and hear so much about the other brands that you get a little brain washed. If you are in Canada, there really isn't many options, so a free 30 day trial from Axiom might be the way to go.

@exlabdriver, @newf: Thanks for the advice. I will wait for the EP175 and see how it sounds. I have M3v4s for all my five channels and really hope the EP175v4 integrates better than the JBL NL150 sub I had before and I really hope the EP175 has tighter, cleaner bass. I will see, soon:)

The only addition I'd make is that Axiom has made MANY improvements to their entire line over the last couple of years, so comparisons to previous generations of the same model name are likely not valid.

The other factor is the rather nice finish available from Axiom, which may or may not matter to you.

See how it works out with your content, your room and your ears.

I would buy neither. Based on your 719$ budget a SVS sb2000 gets my vote. Own 2. I want for nothing with these paired.

I can tell you that the finish on the SVS is nothing special.

What we did not ask you though was, how big is the room?

My room is 20X14X8. It's a medium size room.

That is a big room for a 175 imho. Even the PB-1000. I would be looking at the PB 2000. Having no experience with the Axiom subs, I do not know what their equivalent would be. Ep350 or 500?

My EP500 blows the walls of of a 24x12x8 room (I know sucky dimensions) if you let it. So a 350 should be plenty.

Two smaller subs to smooth out the null spots might be an interesting option as well.
