Tonight was a great night. We are getting situated in our new lives here and hosted a dinner party with some new friends.

I took it upon myself to try to keep the night going with only vinyl. A not so trivial task when barbequeing and keeping drinks flowing for all at the same time.

Things were going great when the song scenes from an italian restaurant by Billie Joel came on from The Stranger. It was the main course and I was already well on my way to being over full. smile

I gotta say, in that moment, it was the most perfect and appropriate song. Time seemed to slow as I withdrew to my thoughts briefly, feeling completely at ease and contented in every way. Then came the dishes.... laugh

Anyway, I thought I would share and challenge you to describe and share your own perfect moment song.

Enjoy! smile

Driving on the highway with a car full of friends early in the morning, heading east for a ski trip in Vermont. We left in a hurry so I didn't have time to change out the music (I guess it was cassettes back then ?) to include some music my friends would recognize. Went something like...

- some Tangerine Dream album

"that's putting me to sleep"

- Imaginary Voyage (Jean-Luc Ponty)

"don't you have anything with lyrics ?"

- Mister Heartbreak (Laurie Anderson)

Don't remember where we were, but just as the album was starting we came over a ridge and could see the sun just starting to come up. First song on the album was "Sharkey's Day" and the lyrics start with:

"Sun's coming up. like a big bald head. poking up over the grocery store. it's sharkey's day. it's sharkey's day today."

We were up pretty late the night before so everyone was a bit groggy -- one friend turns to me and asks "how the ^@$%?? did you do that ?" (ie make the car stereo say "sun's coming up" just as we drove over the ridge and saw the sunrise).

You had to be there, I guess...

Grand Canyon 1979, watching the sun rise after drinking most of the night.

The song: amazing grace

The instrument: Bagpipes

Watching the sun rise over the canyon? Beautiful.

Piping the sun in? Priceless.

Thank you bridgman. Never heard of Laurie Anderson before. Loved it. Strange in the best way.
