Hi Guys,
I have a question about the correct way to connect my rear surround speakers to the Denon 3808 for Dolby PLIIx decoding.
Should the rear surround speakers be connected to the surround back outputs for Dolby PLIIx decoding of a 5.1 source into a 7.1 speaker output?
If so, how could I run the rear surround speakers through an an external amp, since the Denon Preouts only have surround A and surround B outputs. Should I run the other 5 outputs (Front, Center, and Surround) through the external amp and keep the surround back speakers connected directly to the Denon speaker outputs?
I don't understand whether the Dolby PLIIx processing decodes surrounds A and B into discrete information when transforming a 5.1 recording into a 7.1 output, or do you need to have the outputs from the Surround back speakers connected to do this properly?
Thanks for any help with this, I'm a bit mystified.

OK I'm starting to figure this out, SBL and SBR on the pre outs refer to surround back left and surround back right.
In the past when my external power amp started losing channels I'm not sure I related properly to the difference between Surround B and Surround Back speaker outputs on the Denon.

OK now I see you have to go into the Amp Assign Setting and switch from the default setting of Zone 2 to 7.1 channel in order to activate the surround back speaker outputs; however still no love with getting anything out of the Surround Back speakers, probably there's an additional Denon setup step somewhere to change the speaker configuration.
BTW I also see Denon uses SR-B and SL-B to indicate Surround B speakers and SBR and SBL to indicate Surround Back Speakers.

OK that was the trick, to turn on the Surround Back Speakers in the Speaker Configuration menu.
It seems I'm home theater-centric, I would have thought the default output for the Surround Back speaker outputs would be Surround Back speakers, not Zone 2, but I guess that's just me.
Cheers!

Me too, because I have a 2808 and I have no idea how to set it up, despite having done so twice now. Maybe you can have a side career as a translator. Do you do anything besides Denon to English? I'm glad you figured it out Sat. Anything to do with Denon menus is so confusing.
