Hi all,

Not sure if I was one of the first Axiom owners, but I might be close. I bought my M22s, QS8s and VP150 in mid-2003. I punched my serial numbers into the "trade-in value calculator" and got "Serial # not found." I guess they really are "that old" and they've got to be V1.0.

Well, I don't remember my original purchase price, don't have the paperwork, etc.

Interestingly enough all 5 speakers have been in storage (climate controlled) for 7 of the past 11 years, on and off. They are in Excellent physical and operational condition. I'm not selling them, but I am wondering what they are worth trade-in wise towards the V4 models.

Didn't know where, exactly in these forums to put this, so it's here. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I vaguely recall that for models earlier than a certain year (i'm going to throw out 2004 but i could be wrong) that you would need to call Axiom to fix a value.

I remember the relative value of our whole 5.1 system when we purchased it, but i would have to dig way back through paper or possibly a confirmation email to find out the exact pricing we had in 2002.

Wow, that was fast, Chesseroo. I wasn't expecting a reply for a few days at least. LOL!

I'm not definite on upgrading as I don't know the relative benefits of the V4, nor the technical improvements that have been made over the years. All I know is that my Axiom setup (with an SVS PB-2 sub) blows away friends' HT rigs that cost more than twice what I paid.

I guess I may have to call Axiom and see what they say. I'm sure they still have my invoice on file somewhere...heck, my account on these forums was still good and I've not posted in a very long time.

There have been a few threads on the subject including some where Axiom staff have listed the changes. There have been changes to some cosmetics, but technical changes to the tweeter, crossovers, etc. all for the sake of continuing to smooth the response curve. However, the changes are subtle so you would have to be a purist to really care about it.

I've always found our M60s to be a bit bright and i still have the resistor hooked up on the tweeter line in to slightly reduce its output (the tweak suggested by Ian and Joe Vasallo years ago). This was apparently something that was addressed in the later versions of the speaker line and is something i would like to A/B for myself before i considering changing our M60s to the newer versions (in wood veneer as well since presently we have vinyl wrapped Boston Cherry).
If we already had wood veneer speakers, i probably wouldn't even bother considering a switch.

Thanks for the details on the V4 speakers. Mine are Boston Cherry as well. They look great for what they are. Still haven't had time to call Axiom about my trade in value. I need to check if I can just email them pics of my serial #s.

No, your not even close to the first Axiom owner, look at the history section. I also purchased my AX3's in 1990ish, visited the factory in 1991 - there is a thread somewhere if you care to search.

Well, using the "email us" link off the Axiom website I emailed them along with some pics of my serial numbers. We'll see what they say. I knew Axiom had been around awhile but 1990? Wow!

Yes, they had retail stores carrying their product in the 1980's and later, and I became interested in their products in approx. 1987

I bought m60's Feb 2003 and when I called I was quoted a trade in price, I was told I paid $880 and would get $340 trade in but $90 to ship. Private sale would be better. I can't part with my m60's though. I will use them in another room when the m80 v4's arrive. I was auditioning Dali icon 7's ($2700) today and Golden Ear SuperSat 60 ($1600). They were connected to separates preamp and amp. My m60's are on a Denon AVR 4308CI and I thought my m60's sound better for all around music than the Golden Ear although both male and female voices were excellent on the Golden Ear some instruments sounded unrealistic on them. The Dali's sounde pretty good, they somehow were less fatiguing on the ear at high volumes. There was nice detail but singers voices were not as detailed as the m60's. I had to audition a few competitors before upgrading to the m80 v4. But I came home confident the new m80 will tickle my ears at a much better price. Came home and ordered them.

Sorry I haven't update sooner. I did receive a timely and pleasant response from Axiom the second business day after I emailed, which is fantastic response time in anyone's book.

However I thought the trade-in price was pretty low, especially considering the speakers have been boxed up for 7 of the past 11 years and look/work like new. Still, I sort of understand this as they are 12 years old. A private sale would likely net me more money, especially if it's a local sale and I don't lose another $90 in shipping costs.

I will in all probability, just hold onto them and put the money saved towards recliners for the HT.
