I'm in a decision rut between the QS4's or the QS8's as my surrounds to go with my M3's. Looking at the specs it doesn't seem as though there is a very considerable difference between the two. The QS8 is rated 5Hz lower and is one dB more sensitive. Anybody compare the two or able to tell me the actual, in-room sonic differences between the two? Also since they don't go very low in bass what x-over settings do you use to best match them with YOUR fronts? This will give me an idea of how they blend with different speakers and help me set them up with mine later on. By the way I have a Jensen CCS-1 center, and Velodyne CHT-10 sub and a Technics SA-DX1040 receiver. I like a fairly solid wall of sound with music and a good hard surround level. I only have a 10'X12' room. Thanks.

I'm not a pro but just offhand, don't read into the specs so much. Your ear would be hard pressed to tell the difference between 5Hz in sound or 1db in sensitivity.
My understanding is that the QS8s sound virtually identical to the QS4s and that the main difference is the QS8s can play louder, hence are better for larger rooms.
With a 10x12 room, the QS4s should be way more than enough.
Just my 2 cents (canadian cents so take it for all its worth).
As for crossover, this is very listener dependant. I prefer my sub to handle a relatively low range only (65Hz or less) and to keep the musical low tones in the front speakers primarily (i have the M60s and an EP350).

There is also a fair difference in cabinet size and cost. I agree with chess - there should not be a significant difference in the sound (although I have not been able to directly compare them) If smaller and less expensive mean a lot to you, I would suggest you go for the 4s.

The 8's have a different tweeter, right?

the key here is the size room and amp...... as far as i can see the clear choice would be the qs-4's unless in a near future the room size and amp would be replaced...
