Just scored on a Teac professional Receiver (Tascam PA-R200}, 7.2 channel. Ran the Audyssey 2Eq for set up and it turns out No L.F.E. EQ.
So what would you guys do if you were thinking it's time, to redo the subwoofer crawl.

Should I just invest in a speaker level meter or play by ear.

I have an SVS PB1000 and a cheapo Vector Research 150 currently in the same place I had them with an Onkyo TX-Nr525 Receiver They are both still at the same 75Db. level from the old amp. Funny the lower level amp had L.F.E. tone with it audyssey EQ.

I'd probably go for an SPL meter. It's weird to me that Audyssey 2EQ is even out there, as limited as it is.

Yeah, spl measurement. Better still, download room measurement software. Cheaper than a meter and really useful. REW is popular or Studio Six's Audio Tools software for i devices. Really good and portable.

I remember trying REW several years ago and never could get it to work. (Sure I was not doing it right, but the meter sure was much easier.)

REW is much easier now if you own a laptop with hdmi output. It is a steep learning curve and a bit expensive initially to buy the mic and soundcard if you don't have hdmi. I dabbled with it off and on until the HDMI support came out and now I can get the graphs quickly and it is invaluable for subwoofer calibration. If you get a Umik-1 microphone they provide a sensitivity spec so when you load the calibration file you don't have to mess around with built in spl meter before taking a measurement.

Fooling around with acoustics and software adds a whole other dimension to the hobby, and the sound. Pretty interesting once you start to get the hang of it. But yes, it isnt always easy to pick up, and there is a lot of trial and error.

The Audiotools basic suite is Free, and is precalibrated to bypass the apple device mic filters and includes a great suite of realtime graphs and utilities. RTA FTA, SPL, RT60/per octave. The 30$ addon I bought allows perchannel sweeps with a log chirp and ETC curve measurements. It also includes a frequency generator and pink noise. You can overlay known target curves or noise threshold curves. Best of all, I was using it it under 10 minutes and there are online video tutorials.

I you have the time to tweak and measure, its really great for zero $ investment. smile

So got the Scosche SPL 1000.
Did the leveling to 75 Dbs.
Huge difference Audessey set levels to minus levels, after the SPL meter I've set all to plus 5 or 6. Haven't noticed any limitation from my A.V.s max volume (Tascam PA-R200) it's 100 watt RMS Torodial 7.2. Should I be worried of clipping though haven't noticed distortion at all yet.
