Hi all! I recently upgraded my home theater receiver and now I'm tempted to upgrade my front speakers from M22's (paired with an EP350) to M60's. My listening room is rather small, less than 1,050 cubic feet (or 30 cubic meters, for those of you in countries smart enough to use the metric system smile ) I was wanting any general opinions or advice on what I might gain from this upgrade, and if the benefits of the upgrade would be enough to justify the cost. I know this is a rather vague question, but like I said, any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

How old are your M22s?

IMO, your M22s with a decent sub are ideal for your room size.

As Mark pointed out, if your M22s are several revisions back, you might want to try the current V4s. I have a pair in my HT with lots of sub power (2 X EP800s) in a 2500 cu ft room, & they are phenomenal, IMO of course...

Since your sub is picking up the lowest freq's, I would stick with your current setup. The M22's may actually be better in the midrange than the M60s, not to mention the relatively small room you have.

Thank you everyone for your opinions. My M22's are 5 years old, version 2. My EP350 amp died last year at this time and was repaired under warranty to the latest version. The difference in the subwoofer has been amazing, so I would guess that the latest version of the M22's are equally as impressive. Maybe I'll just look into upgrading the M22s to the latest version.

I had a chance to compare the M22 + sub directly to the M60 at Axiom and was surprised that they sounded almost identical.

Upgrading to the latest version of the M22 sounds like a good plan.

@fredk: Did the M22+sub sound exactly like the M60s for real? I just ordered the M60s and was contemplating the HP version over the standard version. Right now my system has some old Sound Dynamics 6/5" drivers (bookshelf model) and a Velodyne 8" sub. I'm hoping the M60s will sound as good, if not better, in straight two channel operation (no sub), as I want both systems in my living room (wife permitting). If, as you say, the m22+sub combo sounds the same as M60 without sub, I'll be a happy camper. My room is small - less than 1100 cubic feet.

All of Axioms speakers sound similar The floor standers deliver more boom than the book shelves. I started with M3s those baby's will surprise you the one 6.5 driver really booms. I found that they went deeper than my M22s, maybe the width of the cabinet has some thing to do with the Bass out put as the M22 is rather slim and tall cabinet.
