There was a notice at the top of the page about an increase due to the dollar and today was the day. It said something to the effect of locking in your price. I grabbed some QS8's from the B Stock store, I can not afford full retail the way the prices keep increasing, stupid economy

The Bank of Canada lowered it's interest rate again today causing our dollar to drop yet again. A couple of years ago we were the darling of the G7 (8?) that could do no wrong. We were seen as the poster child for properly attempting to manage our budget & spending as contrasted to all the rest. Our dollar was basically par for quite a while.
Well, our policy has continued to where we have a more or less 'balanced budget' - almost unheard of these days - but our dollar is now tanking against the US whose deficit & debt (amongst other counties) is still increasing, astronomical & not sustainable.
I don't get it. Unfortunately, Axiom & all other Canadian companies have to do what they have to I guess...

TAM Perception, my friend. Even though oil production really only makes up about 3% of Canada's total GDP, in the eyes of some international investors, we are still perceived as a commodity economy and along with the over supply of oil in the world, prices over the last year have plummeted resulting in the dropping dollar. The economy also is some what limping along tied in generally with the U.S. economy whose alleged turnaround, in the eyes of many economists is a sham. There you have fewer people employed than before the financial meltdown, stagnating wages along with what is now a weak retail sector. It is called the global economy and it affects everyone.

With Iran possibly being allowed to pump oil again, watch the cost of crude drop again.
When crude undertook it's dramatic fall a few months ago to less than half price, our retail gas prices plummeted as well, as they should have; however, it was really short lived here.
Funny how our gas prices on the west coast rapidly rose again (roughly equivalent to $120/BBl of crude) to where they are hovering around $1.25/Liter today. All of the savings that consumers were going to realize by significantly cheaper gas in order to pour into other segments of the economy - as predicted by the so-called experts - didn't happen.
OPEC's plot to maintain pumping excess oil & force us into economic submission is working. Again the oil companies continue to do really well.
I don't get it...

Funny how our gas prices on the west coast rapidly rose again (roughly equivalent to $120/BBl of crude) to where they are hovering around $1.25/Liter today. But the fun side of it will be when the cost of oil goes back up to the $100~120/BBl of crude, the price of gas will jump up to closer to the $2 ~ 2.25/L in response to the cost of oil. They will say it has to go up because crude has gone up.

So much for the benefit of direct internet sales without middleman. So much for the great cost/value ratio which endeared Axiom to so many.

Craigsub, That is an unfair assessment in my opinion. To use a "A" Stock real wood finish product price against a "B" Stock veneer. Yes, even if the Prestige 85 is comparable to the M80 it is probably more comparable to the M80HP. I don't think in my opinion that the M80 is equal to the Studio 100. Maybe the M80HP are closer, I do not know I have not heard the M80v4HP. I however, have the M80v3 and I am sorry they are not superior. They are however, a better deal as the Studio 100's are not a $2000 better sounding speaker. If you are going to be fair then be fair. Use the M80v4HP in real wood finish which is the most comparable and that is a $3214 speaker against a $3950 speaker. or even at that if quality is not your thing then atleast compare a Outlet M80v4 $2485. This competes directly with the M80's ... The Paradigms are $3998 per pair vs. $1620 per pair for the M80's from the outlet.

Troy - The outlet speakers are not "B" stock. They are built to order "A" stock speakers. Yes, the $1620 is for the standard vinyl wrap, and this has been the "trade off" with Axiom vs. Paradigm/PSB speakers for over a decade. As for the relative sound qualities between the M80's and the Paradigm 85F's ... only a blind, level matched comparison will tell whether they are comparable. I was merely using the known specs on each product, along with the anechoic measurements of the Prestige 95F (the big brother to the 85F) vs. the M80's response. One can find the 95F response curve here: Paradigm Prestige 95FThe most recent M80 measurement can be found here: M80 measurementThe M80, in USD, is $2870 for the HP version with real wood finish and $2380 in standard finish.

Troy. you are working in CAD, where Craig is in USD.
If you look up the Paradigm in CAD then you will be paying closer to $4300. I don't know if the Paradigm are actually real wood. I would hope so, but in looking at a pair of Studio100's, I had my wonders.
But you are correct in the cost would be more in you'd also should add in the Outriggers +120. and the real wood +245.
edit:
but it you look at the specs, Paradigm claims +/-2db from 40hz-20khz. Take a look at the graph that Craig linked.. it is nowhere near that.

Maybe I'm missing something with the anger at Axioms' pricing.... but isn't the problem the current exchange rate with Canadian currency and not with Axiom?

The Factory Outlet is now the same product as the regular products except with a wait time, a five year warranty (instead of 10), and no option to Customize Yours. There are no longer any B-stock products in the Factory Outlet.
The B-stock store is now where the B-stock products are sold. They are put in the B-stock store on an as it happens basis and are graded depending on the severity and/or quantity of the scratch or dent. The warranty for B-stock is five years.

Troy - I don't know when the change was made, but there is a specific "B" stock store. On the main page, there is a link to "save 5% every day" which takes one to the Outlet page.
The basics are this - using the Outlet page gets a savings over the standard pricing. The downside is you are buying something before it's made, which is why the lead time is given.
One of the things I try to do in the review process is find "deals" for purchasing stuff, regardless the company.

Yeh, I see now B stock is defects and listed on the B-Stock deals. the Outlet is just order and wait and only 5 year warranty. No options other than Black or Boston Cherry.
I understand , but I just find if comparing speakers and prices that quality and finish is included.
One can mention that, Hey if you want a better deal between the two then you can save an additional $1000 ordering from the Outlet and waiting 5 weeks. Just my opinion.

thank you Harper If anything, Harper has helped increase your actual money. He has at least reduced your federal tax portion, and decreased the HST. Now those of us in Ontario, we can thank Dalton/Wynn for our loss of standard of living. The famous, no new taxes (but that health sur charge is not a tax, honest). And converting to HST from PST/GST and many items that were not PST now have it like Electricity, Gas, Fuel. But the savings we were supposed to see on Liquor, they simply raised the price to zero it out in the name of social responsibility

lol I pay more taxes Fed/Provincial here than if I was in Ontario. sorry to burst your bubble, but you pay the exact same Fed tax as everyone else across Canada. Now the province also charges tax and puts on sur-charges, but that has nothing to do with the Federal Government. But alas, this has ZERO to do with the cost of speakers from Axiom. They are in business to make money and can choose to charge as much or as little as they want. It may not be what us the consumer feels is right, and we get to make the choice if we feel that the product they are selling is worth the price they are asking. It is called a free market. Personally I would prefer to pay less, but also understand the requirement for them to charge more and still feel there is value in what they sell. If you feel that the speakers are not worth what they now cost, then by all means, buy from someone else.

I agree with Matt. That being said I remember all the way back in history to the long forgotten spring/ summer of 2014 when Axiom was selling v4 at v3 prices. I bought LFR1000's, VP180HP, QS8's, etc at a very good price point. I believe Axiom gave their customers, old and new, a rare gift in the audio business. As an aside, can anyone see reference to a ten year warranty on the website?. I'm the guy who asked them to stop advertising the LFR dsp as having a 12v trigger.

I am curious to what external amp that you are using with yours? I have an Anthem MCA50 that seems to work quite well, except for a grounding incompatibility with the DSP. Seems that the two don't like each other with RCA cables so I ended up having to move to XLR and the problem went away, I didn't really notice that the DSP didn't have a 12v trigger. I have only just got a pre-amp that has the 12v trigger outs.

On the subject of price increases, I just researched getting an air gun from a Canadian online dealer. His new stock that is coming in from the manufacturer in Germany has just increased in price about 10% due to exchange rates & higher shipping costs.
Therefore, I bought an instock 'higher end' model for almost the same price as the new stock 'standard' model.
It seems that price changes are a fact of life due to the pressures caused by the global economic situation...

I have my LFR's, VP180HP, and 2 QS8's bolted up to an Arcam P777. Love the sound with the Axioms as I wanted to feed the LFR's the most clean power I could afford. It specs out close to the Anthem A5. I like modern/classic rock at SPL's that make the instruments sound "real" and the Arcam provides! I'm using unbalanced connections with no ground noise. May go to balanced when my new room is built in our new house this fall. Then I'll have no less than 4 QS'8 I'll use my Arcam P1000 amp for those. It was able to drive the LFR's also but sounded a little lean. Brad

The way our economy is going, i would expect prices to fluctuate for some time.
I don't recall the original price of our M60s, but somehow i have around $1k in my head. Overall i know there has been a price increase. Our system is essentially the Epic60-350 bundle which presently is priced at just under $4000. I know with 100% certainty that our entire setup was $3400 after all was said and done (taxes, shipping was free).
Difference of... $600 between then and now.
It's like that Price is Right game, Then and Now. Anyone still watching that? The kids love it.

Coke still tastes good...if you buy it in a bottle. It's never tasted good coming out of plastic or tin. Paging Ken... he swears by Coke straight from aluminum cans.

I merely identify coke in cans (which is excellent) as different from Mexican Coke in bottles, which is also excellent. Coke in any other form is generally not that good.

Jeez. A couple of years ago our dollar was the darling of the G7/8 by being at par or more with the US Dollar with the present PM at the helm. Everyone but the manufacturers/exporters in ON & QC was happy. In order to try to keep them afloat, the new Bank of Canada Governor made sure that the Can Dollar would drop to try to increase our exports (sleazy way of doing it IMO). Well, with his speeches & policies, he started the ball rolling downhill & it hasn't stopped. Have our exports dramatically increased to cure our trade imbalances? I think not.
Furthermore, now our Dollar is tanking relative to the US Dollar (incredible to me as it is the most indebted regime on the planet) largely due to world wide crude being at dramatic low prices (OPEC & oversupply).
So now this is the PM's fault as well?? Come on guys...

TAM Conspiracy theories, notwithstanding, there are stories out there with some validity that there are powers in place that wish the U.S. dollar be kept artificially high no matter the circumstances.

The government does have influence on the state of the economy of the country which can affect the dollar, absolutely. Is our dollar value reflected solely by the ideologically driven policies of our present PM? No. Shutting down highly used and respected science libraries in a fascist manner akin to Nazi behaviour however, that is 100% on the idiot.

I thought that we were discussing why the Can Dollar was doing what it is & how it is affecting Canadian Consumers & firms like Axiom.
Now we're talking about libraries & Nazis.
Again, I don't get it...

TAM And once we were talking in a thread about sin wave principles and room correction which ended up in a discussion on peach ripeness from the Philippines. Those damn thread hijacks. It's like stopping Mark Johnson from smiling.

I must admit that I like the taste of Diet Coke/Pepsi & Diet A&W Root Beer better in a chilled glass container. Has to be 'diet' due to my diabetes, but you know, I hardly drink soft drinks anymore. Those new littler bottles are a great idea.
I like these beverages with pizza & hamburgers/hot dogs, but that's about it...

I can still remember buying a large bottle of coke and a chocolate bar for a dollar. Before the plastic, and I'm only 36

Betchya don't remember the the vending machines that took a nickle + 2 pennies for a 7-Cent Coke. We all wanted to get a bottle that had a green tint in its glass because they were rare & sought after for some reason. It was kinda like playing a slot machine, ha!
Common in the 1950s...
