I agree on both counts, Fred. From my experience, it seems that one can be an "angry young man" up until about 30. Then, if you persist, you're just an a-hole for the next 30 years. At 60, you've earned the right to become what everyone already expected---a curmudgeon.

If my memory is correct, you have one more year as an a-hole, then you're home free. Did I mention crotchety?

Don't tell my wife she has to put up with me being a total crotchety a-hole for the next 15 years, I think she might change her stance on gun control and join the NRA.

Now that I know you're 45, I hate to have to tell you that you can't be crotchety for another decade and a half, Matt. That means you're just an a-hole. Don't worry. I did my three decades worth. It goes by really quickly. Our friends, and especially the people who have chosen to live with us, already knew that. If your wife hasn't already tried to kill you, I think you're good.

Of course, there is always the possibility that, without your knowledge, she has TRIED to kill you and failed. Just a thought.

I am definitely an A-Hole, and think that crotchety was a good preamble descriptor for the type of a-hole that I am. I am very much looking forward to the grumpy old man (curmudgeon) stage of my life.

I have some wicked speakers and enough amplification to drown out all the other a-hole's of the world that I don't want to deal with. I think I am set for that 15 year wait.
