The post above is spot on. You want identical direct firing speakers in the back, and you want them at ear level. No more mounting the rear's high. I tried that with my QS8's since they were high originally and it was HORRIBLE. Defeated the Atmos effect entirely. Keep surrounds AWAY from the ceiling. The more seperation the better. Same thing with the ceiling speakers, get them far apart meaning line up the ceilings with your front speakers. My ceiling didn't allow that...darn hvac and pot lights. Still works, but not ideal.

You also ideally want ceiling speakers that you can aim at the mlp.

Will QS8's still sound good? yup. Will in ceiling M3's work? Yup. But ideal they are not.

Just as an addition, my advice of ALWAYS using two subs also still stands. Don't buy one great big sub, buy two smaller ones if you have to. Two is always better. Granted two big ones are even better.

Newf, thank you so much for your response, it's exactly the type of information i was hoping to hear from an actual owner of an ATMOS system that use/used QS8's and the why they did or didn't like them in it. grin

i'm still hoping to hear from the OP.

The front and centre speakers are 3' away from the wall.

The QS8s sound great with Atmos sources plus they are made for surround sources that are not Atmos. Best of both worlds but each his own.
Just my two cents.

The Yamaha amp runs the 4 in ceiling Axiom speakers for Atmos Surround sound.

I missed that the ADA was 8 channel.
I like the ADA and its power splitting.
I still have plans to add another one but won't be any time soon.

thanks you sir for your reply. I am happy to know your ears are happy with the QS8's doing surround duty in your ATMOS environment! smile

Huh, what? I completely missed the post meaning; is it an inside joke or something?

No, I'm just interested in how the system sounds as it is an unconventional choice of room finish for a listening room. All hard surfaces and leather(?) furniture. It sure has a striking appearance, but how does this aesthetic choice affect the sound experience? Interested in this sort of stuff. smile
