So in another recent thread the issue of first reflection points and their handling was broght up. I have been wondering where you lot sit on the decision or about treating rooms in general? Are you into physically changing the acoustic environment of your space?

Like the idea? Hate it? Curious about it?

Single most destructive thing to good sound? An untreated room.

You can have the world's most amazing speakers, amplifiers, source material, etc, and in an average room (which is actually pretty acoustically poor) it will not sound nearly as good as in a room that doesn't color/distort the sound.

Another way to look at it... All professionally designed rooms have acoustical treatments, and usually a LOT of them, for a reason.

Woohoo... Just you and me I guess. cool

My guess is that there are only a small number of people here with room treatments. I think that a number of people would like them, but don't do it due to time, money, looks, complexity in some rooms, spouses, laziness, and just that they think that everything "sounds good to them." smile

I just have the base traps in all four corners and a couple panels 2x2 on the back wall. All the rest is natural, like bookshelfs and furniture. laugh Room sounds awesome, I mean the equipment.lol You know what I mean.

I wonder if Axiom has ever considered a line of room treatment packages. As far as I know the only place to buy ready to go panelsin Canada is from Long and Mcquade. They sell primacoustic and auralex products. Not that expensive either.

If you could have a comprehensive ready to hang room treatment package for around $1000 would you do it?

Dear Serenity,
Thank you
I found my 50% more serenity.
In reading your totally cool advice for putting some kind of absorption in at least the first reflection points. Decided to make my own 4 by 2 foot panels filled with 5.5 inch Roxul.

Holy crap it's cool, I made 3 of them one on each side and one in back. Immediately my M80s sound stage broadened. Seems more open.

I think they're great and it only cost me about 60 bucks with plenty of insulation left over, possibly another 3 more of them on the way.

Save some money and make your own treatments truly quite cheap.

Thank you , I've noticed an improvement

Great stuff.

Edit. Just be careful not to overdamp the room. Some lateral and late reflections are needed for a space to sound natural.

Thanks for sharing!
