Hello All,

Been a while since I've posted. So long in fact that I even fell off John's birthday greeting list. eek

I guess as I approach my 7th decade I've just been too busy to do more than drop in, have a quick read and then disappear for a month or so.

I did know that if I ever needed advice I'd be back as fast as possible. Well I do and I am.

Thinking about getting back into vinyl (records not clothing)

So I have to ask:

Where is a good reliable source for records? I am interested in just about anything but especially the 60's, Jefferson Airplane, Vanilla Fudge, Bowie, Stones, Electric Prunes etc.

Are there new pressings being made or do I have to buy used and hope?

Also anyone have any input on Pro-ject turntables? Especially the RM1 line. I've got about $500CDN plus/minus in mind for the turntable.

Great to be back here again, thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Wayne

There's places in most cities that sell used albums, also estate sales, kijiji, flea markets, antique stores, classifieds ect. If I recall, you're out Hamilton way so you should have some used vinyl stores in town, if not, take a drive over to T.O., there should be several places.

On the new side...every time I go to HMV, the vinyl section is growing all the time as more people are getting/returning to it.

As a last resort you could contact Bbigwyrz, even though he's kind-of obnoxiuos grin

We were just in a record store in Athens, GA - great selection, really good prices. Some new pressings, some remastered old stuff like Bowie's Space Oddity, and lots of old stuff with several turn tables and headphones to check it out before buying. Same in New Orleans when we lived there, and I hear there's a nice store in Atlanta.

Adrian is right, just look around. We've also purchased albums thru Amazon as well.

As the guys mentioned, Amazon is a great place to look too, I forgot about them.

Wuxtry? I remember going there in high school and college. Though I bought more from Bizarro Wuxtry upstairs - comics!

Music Direct for new pressings of favorites. But, I think used is the way to go. Google for used record websites, there are some which rate the condition of their vinyl. Ebay has plenty of used vinyl. I think for many, especially jazz, the original pressings have better sound quality than even the new 180 and 200 gram offerings.
