I am in the process of putting in a complete new build of a house ready next month. I will be using a control4 matrix and a number of zones with various controller/remote bundles. My main living room will have an atmos 7.2.4 system. I am going to buy a Samsung 4k 75" TV model TBD.

This system will be powered likely by either an anthem mrx-1120 or a denon 6300H or 7200WA. Currently I have a denon BDT-1713UD blu ray player. Should I also look to upgrade to a 4k Samsung player or a new Oppo player?

Frankly I am in so much with the control4, a 7.2.4, two 5.1 zones, and a 2.0 system that shaving off a few hundred and holding off on this upgrade for now would be nice.

You are on the right track to go UHD for sure, even if someone doesn't end up with a 4K TV right off the bat. You are investing in Atmos/DTS:X and more and more movie titles are only offering those sound formats on the UHD discs which require the new player.

Oppo won't have anything until maybe Christmas.

Samsung is the only option for a lot of the world right now.

Panasonic's player is a bit more money, but is supposed to be significantly better in video playback and features, but isn't available everywhere yet.

This s good to know. I have a trip to Miami next week and just might consider bringing a Samsung back and replace my current player. However I have room in my matrix for both so that might be a direction I go. I was saving that last matrix slot for a HTPC not that I have the time to actually set one up.

Another option that you could consider is the new Microsoft Xbox One-S that is supposed to support 4k res and have a new UHD 4K blu-ray player built inside it. They are playing the same hand that Sony did with the PS3.

I personally would wait for the UHD player. I have a 4k TV and to tell the truth it takes real concentration to tell the difference between a true 4k source and a 1080p source that is up-ressed by the TV.

One-S is not the 4K one.

Hhhmm, that one-S might be the way to go. I've not been able to give much thought to this lately focusing on dining room tables, couches, etc. I will need to look into that for sure as that could kill a few birds with one stone especially if I run it back into the matrix.
