Hello Everyone,

I am adding a 7.1 system in our basement. I will be using the Axiom M80 and VP160's for the front and for the rears I will be using M3 in-walls. I'm uncertain what to do about the left and right channels though. I am debating between the qs4's and the m3 in-walls. Both speakers would be mounted right on the corner of the wall and ceiling because of the layout. I would prefer to use the in-walls due to looks but how would the surround sound react to having the speakers so high up instead of ear level?

The QS speakers are much more forgiving in a traditional 5.1 or 7.1 layout. You may have an issue with them being too close to the ceiling/wall, but even a couple of inches can help in that respect. I tough situation either way.

If you go with M3 in-wall, make sure the wall is make of 2x4s and not 2x3s. The depth of the speakers in 3 3/4". I had that bad surprise once (compensated by creating a "frame" for the M3s to artificially increase the wall's dept, but would have gone with on-wall if I had measured first).

spiroh, can you take a photo of the area in question and maybe add a couple of measurements? I would hate to say one way and have it completely not work.

In addition to what Eric mentioned, you will need to make sure that the wall is actually hollow and an in-wall can even be installed....

How far away will the main listening position be from the sides?

From projector screen to viewing position it will be 12-14ft. The sides will be 4ft part give or take. I will try and take pics soon.

If the sides will be 4 feet away from the main listening position, go with QS4s.

Well the decision was easy to make. I took out the paneling and found out there are no 2x4s on the walls had 1 inch boards to concrete so I ordered 4 qs4's for my surrounds.
