OK, so I got the first sub of two. I figured to try this one out first instead of not being happy and return two.
First impression is it is better than any other I've had.

Not sure if I am 100% sold on it though. Mainly because I got this EP500 or SVSplus would be alot better. But, really how much better ? $2000 more better ?
My room shrunk in size from what I was originally planning. It is 12 x 15 x 8

My question is if I ran say REW and setup a PEQ for the subs if that would help the performance ?
I do have and am installing room treatments I need a couple corner bass traps yet,
I know the room treatments I am putting up would effect the bass much at all.
I find though and probably rightfully so, that with music it is a bit more loose, boomy than I like, however it is better than none. I had the M80's and now and running the M22.
Reason is my son loved the M80's in the HG Cherry and also this room was probably too small for them and I fought and fought to get them positioned right and just could not get it.
I don't need loud either. The M22 I now have sound coming from the middle of my tv and not below in stereo. So, for my room and 90% movies I believe I am staying M22 and VP160.

SO, my question is. Will a PEQ help even out tighten up the bass? or should I maybe return it for a DSP sub with more power EP500 or SVS Plus or JL Audio E112 ?

I guess to add also
I have $700 M22's and $2000 subs. Why put in $3000 - $4000 subs if I am only putting $700 mains.

I am hoping that now that Axiom has upgraded all the speaker line they will make improvements on the M22 mid/woofer drivers to keep up with the improved woofers, tweeters and cross overs

I suggest you experiment with sub placement and the room treatments before spending any more money.

The m22s are apropriate for that room size. 2 ep350s will load that room without breaking a sweat. My old room was 12x17. A pair of similar subs gave a very tactile experience.

Yup got treatments giong just need get the bass traps and have been playing around with sub locations. Still regardless of it all I am going with dual subs. Just wondering what ones. But, more and more today I am thinking this maybe ok.
but, wondering if one of the other subs would be tighter. Or maybe a PEQ would fix that up.
Guess gotta watch a few movies now

I have a YST-SW315 in an 800 cu. ft. room. No matter what I did, it sounded like total garbage when I first put it in there and did my best to dial it in.

After advice from Serenity_Now on how to re-arrange my room, adding in some sound panels I acquired from him and some touches of my own, that sub is now TIGHT, TIGHT, TIGHT! It's a 2-channel, music only room with bookshelf speakers but because of its lay-out and treatment, it sounds better than my home theater for music.

So play around with the room and don't be afraid to throw in some temporary furniture and cabinets that can act as absorbers and diffusers to gauge how the sound changes.

My impression is that the variation in bass quality between untreated and well treated rooms is maybe 5x (or at least 2x) the difference between different decent subwoofers.

If you are planning on DIY-ing panels or bass traps then pick up a bale or two of whatever insulation you plan to use (however much you were planning to buy), then stick them in the corners and throw old sheets over them or whatever is necessary to maintain domestic peace.

I cut the plastic open on mine but I bet even that is un-necessary. For testing purposes you don't need to cut triangles or build frames or anything...

for the wall treatment panels I have the sound panels from a movie theatre. I made doubt thickness 2" of this 2' x 4'. I have three along each side wall. On the front I have one on either side of the tv and one under it.
One the back wall I am making a diffuser.

Sorry, I accidentally hit 'submit' on previous post before typing in what was probably the most important line.

You mentioned loose, boomy bass - and what I was trying to say was that the room is likely to be a much bigger contributor to that than the subwoofer... and that's why I'm suggesting getting even crude bass trapping in there as a first step before you do any further experimentation.
