Hi all,
I had a chance to listen to both rx-v1400, rx-v2400 and avr-3805 at tweeter. Between v1400 and v2400 , i don't see much difference except v2400 has more power, but not much. Then , I listen denon 3805. I must say that Denon sounds warmer and Yamaha sounds more brighter. However, I decide to pick yamaha rx-v1400 and hook it up with M60ti. I think Yamaha is too bright to me when it's paired with M60ti. I will bring it back and exchange to denon 3805. If it sounds better with M60ti...then Denon is a keeper...Let you know how it goes later....

If anyone here has listened M60ti with Denon avr-3805,please pipe in ...:)

I heard NO distinguishing sound character whatsoever when doing an actual a/b blind test at home with a Denon 3802, an Onkyo 797, a H/K (slightly older) 380i or 2 other amps.
Don't kid yourself.
When these are all volume equalized, set on the same speakers and heard in the same room blind, you would never tell the difference.

You're probably right. I didn't do any calibration with rx-v1400 at all. When i look at the equalizer, either Treble ro Bass, they all set to 0db. In general i like rx-v1400 , especially I can still hear the sound very clear when i turn the volume to half way ( as i remember, it -20db). It's just a little bright to me. Note that I didn't do any calibartion yet.

You really have to watch what they do to those receivers in the stores (or at least keep in mind the possibilities).
It is possible the audio salesmen tinker with certain settings to make their higher priced units sound better. There are TONS of settings that could do this other than just treble or bass though. For instance, one could turn on the Yammy1400 unit where they tweaked the "centre channel width" in DPLII to shrink it down so the soundstage is reduced and more collapsed into the centre. Then they bring you over to the Yammy2400 where this setting is done correctly for the speaker spacing. The user would think "oh ya, this 2400 has a much better soundstage than the 1400" not knowing what a simple tweak will do to change that.

Other than SPL calibration when doing comparisons, this is by far my biggest concern when i walk into any audio store. That is why the ultimate test is best done at home where you can tinker with things yourself.
Worry more about your budget and required features, then take the unit home to audition it (most places have good return policies, esp. big box stores) before you decide 100% which unit you like. If you put some good cash and a bit of testing into the purchase, you will have a receiver for the next 15 or 20 years or maybe more that you know was a good decision as a buy.

Yeah..i agree. That's why i brought home RX-V1400. Unfortunately, RX-V2400 and AVR-3805 are not available until tonight...and I can't wait to bring them all home to audit them. Tweeter has a good return policy. In fact, the saleman suggested to try them all at home.

When turn the volume of RX-V1400 to 0db without playing any sources, i hear hissing sound....Is this a bad receiver? I would expect Yamaha rx-v1400 is a high-end receiver so the hissing sound should not present.....

You must have very sensitive ears. I never have any encounters with mine. (hissing sounds)

I admit the RX-V1400 is a hard receiver to setup but when you get it right; you'll be thankful you bought it. It took me diff setting to get it right.

Try switching sources with the volume turned up. Is the hiss constant or does it only happen with particular sources selected?

Finally, i settle down with denon avr-3805 . The saleman also suggested me to try out 3803 which i will do tomorrow...the price has been reduced to $900.
