I'm going to hook up my rear qs8's. On the back of my receiver ( pioneer elite receiver ) I have 2 separate surround hook ups. I placed my qs8's on the rear of the side wall. ( about a foot away from back wall ) question... which hookup would I use ? Surround or rear surround ?

Rear surrounds are to be added to an already setup 5.1 system. Dolby PLiix or Pliiz uses information from other speakers when a 7.1 track is not being played. You cant really use the rears in lieu of side surrounds. If you want it to be 5.1 with the surrounds at rear which is not correct placement the you would connect to the surround output on the receiver.

I'm confused. On your first post you said to use the rear. On your next one you said to use the side ( surround ).

I'm only using one set of speakers for my rear/side 5.1 I guess you call it. I put them on my side wall but close to the back wall. I didn't want them on the back as I only have a half back wall and my couch I would be directly under the rear speakers ( about 3 feet above my head ) so I chose to put them on the side walls which placed them about 2 feet from the rear wall.

If you want the speakers on the back wall behind the couch that would be rear surround. Where you have the QS's on the side like that would be considered to be just the surround speakers for a 5.1 so that would be connected to the surround output on your receiver. That is also what you would choose in the setup menu which will have a graphic to demonstrate that placement. Sorry for the confusion.

You can see the left speaker is between back wall and a window. I can't move it anymore forward as my OCD will kill me if it's not even between back wall and window. The right rear speaker can only go,where it's at because of the room layout. I do not want it above the couch. Even on low it will dominate front speakers as it would be directly above my head.

You say set up menu with a graphic. Would that set up through receiver or through DVD player on options for setup ?
