In the receiver setup you will find a setting to assign which speakers you have so it outputs to the correct rear connections. If you havent done anything it should be set to default 5.1

In a 5.1 setup your surround channels are Surround Right and Surround Left. Don't assign any rears. Change the option to none for the rear amp assign. Your AVR will downmix the incoming 7.1 content to 5.1 if available. The content from the rear channels will be directed back into the speakers you have in your 5.1 surround config.

You threw us all for a loop when you started with "I'm installing my rear surrounds." You have none in this setup. smile

This sounds like a confusing mess.

I think you could simplify the conversation by say.

If you are setting up for 5.1 surround. No matter where the surround speakers are put, you use the surround jack on your Pioneer.

if you are setting up for 7.1 surround. You need to have the speakers hooked into your surround jack on the side walls. You need to have the speakers hooked into your rear jack on the back wall behind the seating.

if you don't hook them up this way then your Pioneer will not know where to decode the correct sound to. If you have the Pioneer setup for 5.1, all the surround sound goes to the surround jack.

I cannot find anywhere in my manual where to look to see about a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker set up to see what it's set up for. It's a vtx 82

Is this the manual for your receiver?

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/vgn/im...nstructions.pdf

It looks like it has speaker connection instructions starting at about page 17. These do include diagrams and the text confirms that for a 5.1 configuration you should connect your two new surround speakers as left and right surrounds. If you ever want to add one or two more speakers as rear surrounds there are instructions with diagrams for that too!

Yes, that's the one. Yes... I hooked up as per the picture. But.... what I can't find is where it was mentioned in an earlier post by socketman so see/check what setup the receiver is putting out and making it a 5.1 ( he said it should default to 5.1'if it was not frigged with ).

Hi Mustang, Serenity has this absolutely correct. I also have a Pioneer receiver (running 7.1 configuration). On page 44 of your receivers user guide in the manual speaker setup section, make sure you have the Surround Back speakers set to 'No'. For a 5.1 configuration, your QS8's get connected to the 'Surround' connections, not the 'Surround Back' connections.
The QS8's are quite forgiving on position, so even if they are closer to the back wall as regular surrounds I'm guessing they'll still sound good.
Hope that helps.

yes..... for the SB..... it's showing NO. So I'm good to,go. Yeahhhhh. My room as you can tell by the pictures is not the best layout for a home theatre. Split entry. I can't place speakers in a true surround as one one side wall there is a window and no room to put on top of the window and I don't have a second wall for the other side ( well.. I do.. but it's a half wall and the other half is another 12 feet more away.
