Just found out that my EP-500 can not be repaired. This is quite disappointing. I was told that I could just purchase a new amplifier for it at a ridiculous price. This sub is used very rarely, and for it to fail like this is one thing. But to be then told that it can't be repaired makes me very nervous for the other Axiom systems I own.

I have always recommended this company to others, and have opened up my home to strangers wanting to hear the different systems I have before making their purchases. That all stops now.

Good luck...

Can you give more details? How long have you had the EP-500? What appears to be the issue with it? No power? Clips?

The EP-500 is not a cheap subwoofer with a current price of $1800! I can imaging a new power amplifier complete with electronics probably was quoted around $600-$900? Is that ridiculous? Depends on how long you've had the EP-500 and what led to it's demise I guess.

I know that for my EP-175, Axiom quickly sent me a replacement back panel (under warranty). Likely cheaper than shipping it back and forth and spending lots of valuable tech time to diagnosis which piece(s) were damaged/defective.

As I read this I can see this would be upsetting, however, you provided little detail, so I reserve judgement until more information is provided;

How long have you had this 500?
Was it new when you purchased it, or refurb?
What did Axiom tell you about the warranty?

Having purchased my first Axiom products in the late 1980's, and needing some support over the years, I think Axiom has excellent customer service.

Ok ... The OP does not tell us the age of the sub, what the failure was (for example, my brother had an amp on a PSB sub totally fry during a lightning storm) nor any other actual, useful information.

Let's look outside Axiom at a suitable amp - the Dayton SP-1200 DSP amp could be programmed to work well. It's $600.

We don't know what price the OP considers to be "ridiculous" either.

OP ... several people have asked good questions, with no response.

I have a suspicious mind. Maybe I am wrong (and I hope I am) but it seems odd that the OP has never posted before and now is once again silent. His profile offers no info. Hmmmm. Hopfully just angry and wishing to vent but valid questions and good advice has been posted.

The post was sort of a double.. he also posted in another thread that I responded to. But to put all the questions and ideas into one spot just incase others get frustrated and or have a simular issue.

What version of the EP500 do you have? that will play a big difference in the response that you'd get. if you have an older V1 or V2 unit, then as they are quite old, then the side of carrying parts for the unit by Axiom is understandable.

If the unit is well outside of warranty, have you tried getting it serviced at any number of electronic repair shops? The unit is not complex. if it is a blown capacitor or something like that, then a small shop might be able to trace down the defect and repair the unit for far less than the suggested replace the whole amp. Something to consider.

I suspect "FrankBear" registered just to post his frustration with the response, as he registered the day of the only 2 posts he made.

Knowing Ian and Axiom for almost 30 years, I can say without hesitation that a good, solid solution was provided to FrankBear, but based on his limited detail rant, he was not interested and felt it better to flame Axiom and run.

Sometimes the best customer is one you don't have!

Here is what happened ... The subwoofer in question is 8 years old. The amp is fried, and Fred was offered a brand new amp for $680 - the regular selling price of the amp. This upset him, so the person with whom Fred was talking (and who is not a "decision maker", but rather an employee trying to solve a problem) said to Fred the following:

"If you can give me a minute, I will see what we can do"

Fred's response was "Forget about it" and he hung up.

Ian is trying to reach Fred to see if they can make him happy.

Norap - you are more than welcome, although no thanks is needed. As the owner of a Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram dealership, it's a daily event keeping multiple people happy.

One thing some consumers forget is this: A customer actually has to WANT to be happy. Some are not, no matter what you do for him/her. BUT ... we keep trying.
