Hi Matt,

The mix & match you describe sounds good - I was also thinking that the RC-7 might be a better choice than the VP150.

Believe it or not, the VP180 came first and the VP160 was added later because people were asking for that driver layout. If you think the VP160 as a big step up from VP100 it makes more sense. I would argue that the VP160 is actually a more conventional layout than the VP180.

Horizontal speakers with multiple midranges & tweeters get flak because of concerns about comb filtering, but at least with the VP180 the driver arrangement and distances manage to make it pretty much a non-issue. I spent some time trying to model the comb-filtering I would get from the 180 and was pretty impressed with the driver placement by the time I finished.

Hi, I wondered the same thing about the 160 and noticed the same about the 180. I would actually like to give the 180 a try. They have a refurb for 550 and I could get 140 trade in for the 150, so maybe I will try that some time. I doubt I would find a 180 on the used market.

But before that I might try to move up to the QS10. I have not even unwrapped the WS8 yet until now, and what an unusual design. My RS-7 are pretty much the opposite with an 8-inch woofer straight out.

My thinking is to use QS8s for the surrounds and keep the RS-8 for the back surrounds to see how it works. I am getting a Marantz SR6001, so I will have 9 channel potential, but 7.2.2 might be better. It looks like the M3 is the only Atmos speaker Axiom has now.

I am very pleased with the Axioms. They just have a very pleasant sound. For home theater, I want something that is easy and relaxing to listen to. Something that is good enough, not exceptional. Will be very interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Welcome!

I had a Klipsch KLF C7 center channel speaker years ago. It was very large and had 2 8" drivers. I was very disappointed and sold it as soon as i could. I had high hopes as I thought the twin 8 inchers and horn tweeter would produce a big, full sound. They did not. They did not seem to be as accurate as I had hoped either.

I think they were sold as part of their 'legacy' product line, so I hoped they would be like the Fortes or Heresies. They were not.

On the other hand, the VP150s are good centers, (better than the KLF C7 IMO) but do not keep up with the Axiom VP 160s or VP180s.

Good luck to you. I think you will enjoy your Axiom system very much!

If you are thinking of selling speakers... you will find selling the Klipsch's as a matched set much easier to do due mainly to name/brand recognition. Selling Axioms could be tougher for top dollar, especially in Washington. For that reason alone, I'd make the switch.

I've owned Klipsch's in the past (ok, they were 1980's Klipsch Heresy in walnut smile ) and I wasn't a fan of the horn tweaters then. I have since learned that they were quite fatiguing to listen too.

Axiom's upgrade program would be the main reason I'd keep the Axioms making the move up much easier.

As I understand the Trade In Program, and what is written on the landing page for that program, you can only trade in on new products.
