I'm still using my "old" Sony ES95 projector. I've been very happy with since the day I installed it. Must have been about four years ago.....

I have been holding out for a projector that uses laser for a light source. Native 4K. I will need to replace my AVR with another 4K capable AVR (or just go with a Pre-amp). I also use a Lumagen VP for calibration and quick aspect ratio changes for my CIH set up. Lot's of stuff to replace when I do the 4K upgrade, so it needs to be worth it.

I spent a few minutes at AVS to see what's new or worth looking into. Got bored with all the different threads and drama.....

Anyone have some cliff notes? Quick summary?

I'm not interested in the high dollar projectors either. 8K or less MSRP is about my limit. I'm not all that inclined to spend 5K for one of Lumagen's 4K capable VP either.

Eastporters has them. I cant remember what they quoted for me. You can request on their site. The fan noise is a touch high fyi.

Thanks! That looks like a dandy.

I do not like 3D, so not having that capability is fine with me. No lense memory, but I don't need that anyway.

With it being DLP, does it have that infamous rainbow effect I've read about over the past several years? I personally don't know what it is, but many people tell me it gives them headaches.

Price will come down but fits marginally within your limits.
Heard some good reviews about this. Seriously short throw distances.

Dell was definitely not on my radar. I was not aware they have gotten into the home use projector market.

The dell is probably too bright for darkened theater home use.

Here is the optoma compared to the highly regarded JVC 440. Pretty much a toss up. The JVC is slightly cheaper with slightly better blacks. The Optoma has better contrast and laser life. If I had the funds and was buying right now it would be a close one for me. Laser is a very exciting technology. The fade and shift of color in lamps makes laser a far better choice for installs where the user isnt supposed to have to tweak anything to keep peak performance. There was mention on the review rainbows were very minor with content known to create severe rainbow effect on other models.

I used to enjoy dragging the laptop and meter out, and running through greyscale and color gamut. Not so much anymore. I just don't have time, or desire. I definitely want laser this time.

Thanks for the link. Nice comparison.

I have not personally spent much time watching a DLP display. When DLP verse LCD debates were never ending on this site a few years back, I just make the choice to not try DLP. But then ironically, I discovered I am sensitive to motion blur which DLP is supposedly much better for motion than LCD.

If you make the leap I'd love to hear how laser compares to your old projector.

in the land of never setting sun, or the reverse come winter, brightness is a good thing!

Turn that sucker onto 'sun' mode during December and put up a nice 100" sunrise video to run 24-7!

I will do that Trevor. Thanks for the help!

Daylight is on the upswing Chess! Probably 6 hour now. Summers kill me anymore. I can't work 18 hours a day anymore. 15 tops. I'm getting old.
