Just had 880’s delivered. I have an Outlaw pre-pro, Outlaw Amp. I am confused about the configuration, what wires go into which equipment. Any help would be appreciated.

Lee, you need to:
1. connect the left and right channels of your pre/pro to the DSP
2. Connect each output channel of the DSP to the amp. That's 4 channels.
3. Connect the 4 channels of the amp to the LFRs. Two channels go to one 880 and the other two to the other.
One channel is for front and the other for rear.

Make sure you don't cross left and right channels or front and back. Make yourself a diagram and follow it.

I'll take a stab at this ... assuming your have 4 channels of amplification

prepro Left out --> DSP input L
prepro Right out --> DSP input R

DSP Out Rear R --> Amp channel1 in
DSP Out Front R --> Amp channel2 in
DSP Out Rear L --> Amp channel3 in
DSP Out Front L --> Amp channel4 in

Amp channel1 speaker out --> Right 880 Rear
Amp channel2 speaker out --> Right 880 Front
Amp channel3 speaker out --> Left 880 Rear
Amp channel4 speaker out --> Left 880 Front

Have fun

Looking for some advise. I thinking of purchasing a preprocessor or would it be worth purchasing a preamp and add it to my Yamaha RX850A. I looking at the Emotivo XMC -1
or the Marantz 8002 11.2 Channel. I would need to purchase a new am for the side and rears. Pre amp I was thinking Parasound Halo 6 with home theatre bypass.

Thanks
Bob M

I thank y’all for your LFR advice. It’s up and running now. What First noticed is an increase in bass compared to my M80’s. However I’m not getting a 3D stage presence as much as I’d like to. I listen almost exclusively to classical music. I do. Notice an evenness around the room but I’m not getting that stage presence I was hoping for. I’ll listen to them through the trial period then decide.whether or not to dengue them back.

Lee, check your wiring again. I made a mistake with my active LFRs but when I corrected it, depth and width noticeably improved. Also moving them away from the front wall should improve depth. With my actives, I have the backs only 8" from the front wall and I have a deep soundstage but when I move them to the basement, where I have more room, it should get deeper.

Mojo: I too checked the wiring and found that I had miswired the dsp. That certainly improved the sound. If your speakers are just 8” from the back wall what setting do you use on the dsp, near 1 or 2?

I use Far 2 but this of course depends on the characteristics of your room and speaker position. I've also found I need to toe them in so the drivers are facing me. This allows the rear drivers to better reflect off my walls. Experimenting with placement also helps. Mine are 12 feet apart and I sit 10 feet away on the diagonal.

Lee, recall I have the actives and not passives like you do. There may very well be differences in spatial extension between the two models. I am frankly quite amazed with the extension and detail I am hearing given their 8" distance. As I raise the volume, the depth decreases but the width expands. When I move them to the basement, their backs will be almost 3 feet away from the front wall. I expect far greater depth even with larger volumes.

Lee, I was just listening to Belkis, Queen of Sheba:War Dance by Respighi. It's in the link below. I use this tune to gauge depth. Through all v4 Axioms, I perceive depth but the deepest I've ever heard is with the active LFRs.

At -34 on my Pioneer pre-amp, which is about 1 Watt average output and surprisingly satisfying through the active LFRs, the soundstage is out my bow window and images are very well separated. I hear details that are not evident in other Axioms. As I turn the volume up, the sound moves closer to me. This is due to the fact that I have only 8" between the speakers and my front wall. As I turn the volume up to thunderous levels, the 3D virtual effect collapses to 2D from the multiple reflections coming at me from the front wall/bow window and I am engulfed by sound. However, the images are all still there and the clarity is beyond reproach. I thought I heard dynamics that were as good as they can possibly get with the M100 and a $CA40,000 pair of speakers but the active LFRs are at a completely different level.

You will not get this level of performance from the 880s. I know this because I have the M100v4 and they are of similar character. You can expect a wider, deeper image from the 880s compared to the M100s but that's about it. I strongly suggest, if you continue to be dissatisfied, to work out a deal with Ian for the actives.
