Has anyone tried Roon? Also as the air is a Rpi based system does it already function as a Roon endpoint? Or alternatively is Roon on anyone’s wish list for the AxiomAir?

I wondered this, too. I have 3 AA products, in different locations, so I wouldn't necessarily need the RAAT, but if they worked, I'd use it e.g. in moving them around for the occasional multi-room use. Mostly, I'd want to drive them independently in separate locations.

I signed up for Roon yesterday, and will need some time to get the rest of my setup configured/updated. In the meantime, does anyone out there already know the answer?

Will AA devices support Ropieee?

This may be the most straightforward route to getting the benefit of
- streaming hi-res audio over wireless network (which neither airplay or airplay2 offer)
- making use of the rest of the AxiomAir package (the Pi-DAC-speakers we already have in place)

if not, we're forced into solutions like using apple's lower res streaming even for our FLAC files, or else adding some self-defeating solution at the front end like chromecast, which supports higher res streaming.

Roon is remarkably good at what it does, which complements what Axiom does at the endpoint, where it counts. I want to make the most of my AA DAC and speakers. I want to arrange a RoPieee-Axiom meetup.

So I also signed up for a free roon trial. So far roon is recognizing the AA as an airplay endpoint and seems to work. I don't know about Ropieee, I doubt it would be a plug and play option but some tinkering probably should be able to get it to work.

Nice. I have it running airplay now, too (downsampling my flacs) or via a chromecast audio puck I had around, circumventing the 'Air' part of the amp altogether.

I may need to hack the Pi like others have done for JRiver, to get it to run RoPieee. The thing is, I went 'all in' on the air - to - axiom pipeline (and in on Roon) precisely so that I could spend my time enjoying my speakers and not hobby-hacking. I still think it's a really smart option to allow Roon on the front-end; both pieces doing what they do so well.

Aside from high-res streaming, another reason for RoPieee support is for us to join multiple speakers in a room with the airs with balanced sound (for surround/imaging). TL;DR Roon only runs its multi-speaker adjustments on RAAT devices like Pis-with-RoPieee, not with Airplay.

https://kb.roonlabs.com/DSP_Engine:_Disabled_During_Zone_Grouping

As a workaround, if I could collect and adjust my AA-enabled speakers as a 'virtual multichannel' unit with the air software, making DSP adjustments there including L/R separation, and then present that as a single selection to Roon, I could get the benefit of multi-speaker placement; otherwise I defeat a major purpose of running multiple speakers in a room.

We're actually working on Roon integration right now =)

If you're really really really nice, then Santa might drop it in on the Xmas software update :-)

Hi Scout, Hi Yodalogger,
As promised, 2.12.1 is out and it has Roon Endpoint support :-)
Give it a try and let us know what you think !

You guys are incredible. What's the emoji for showering with praise? Christmas comes early. Now if I can just get that SD card flashed, we'll be in business.
