I have some older vinyl EP's and records that I just keep. I will admit that I have not listened to them in quite some time as I don't have a record player any more. My Anthem AVM60 doens't have any pre-amp so even the old players from the 80's that my parents likely have in their basement wouldn't work without extra parts.

Has anyone heard of the Elipson Omega 100 RIAA BT? (https://www.whathifi.com/us/elipson/omega-100-riaa-bt/review ) . is this a worthwile unit or likely just going to be low caliber like the old players from the 80's and not worth the money to buy.?

Anthem: AVM60, Fosi DAC-Q5
Axiom: ADA1500, LFR1100 Actiive, QS8, EP500, M3, M3comp, M5

MatMan, you can get a reasonable phono preamp for small money ...
IMO there is really no reason that you need to spend more than $50 ... and not even that ...
So don't let your receiver get in the way.

I bought mine for less than $15

BTW ... For those DIY'ers it's a great first project ... as it's really just a few op-amps <for gain & RIAA filter (if not passive)>, their support components, and of course the power adapter. You won't save money but it might be fun ...

Looks like a good unit Matt similar to Rega looks.
If you only want to play and archive perfect. The OM5 and OM10 are considered entry Ortofon. Hope it has sound character you enjoy. Too which you could easily change to your own preference.

During lock down I found a Project Box USB phono for 70% off and decided to try a new cartridge AT XP5 Its a DJ version hopefully kills the AT95E it's replacing. For me the external Phono is a big upgrade for internal I was using louder more detail.

Matt, I'll give you the same advice I give anyone who asks me about an entry level turntable setup: Pro-Ject or Rega. Why? Why not Elipson, U-Turn, Fluance, Ion, etc.? Because Pro-Ject and Rega are both the biggest players in the market and have been around a LONG time. Need a belt 5 years down the road? Both of them will be there. Need setup or service advice? There are so many of their tables out there in the marketplace that someone, likely on a forum, will be able to advise and help you out. I'm NOT saying they are the best choices at all price levels, or that their products are perfect and free of QC issues sometimes, but they will always be my recommendations of choice.

I did months of reviews and talked to many current owners. Was leaning towards Pro-Ject, and then Rega, but after talking to many current owners and the problems they had, went with Fluance RT85 with Ortofon Blue and Acrylic platter. So glad I did. Also, a friend of mine has a uTurn and loves it as well. Yeah the others have been around awhile and have a huge UK following, but to me they are nothing special unless you want to spend huge bucks and pay for the name.

Paired it with a Schiit Mani phono preamp, again reviewed by many reputable sources, this thing rivals preamps costing 1K or more, for about $120. But you have to do your research on their products to realize their value. Paired with the Ortofon Blue, amazing detail and dynamics. Of course I restore all my albums with my new ultrasonic cleaner, no more tics and pops.

Like Axiom these companies give you the best bang for the buck, and great CS. Just my opinion.

ps: I also have an Anthem AVM60, and guess what the Genesis Arc room correction is the bomb, I know some frown. smile
