Is the mounting bracket the same for all on wall units?

Yup. That way you can buy the M2, then easily upgrade to M5, M60, M80 and finally M100. Baby steps.

Funny, the wall mount was mentioned. I just recently ran into a problem that could not be solved with the wall mount alone. Since I was making some aesthetic changes to my set-up and in order to shrink the footprint, I traded in my full size VP180 for the on-wall 180 and immediately ran into problems. The wall speaker still weighs almost 45 pounds and in order to handle that weight, the bracket must be screwed into a stud. The issue arises when, in trying to center the speaker properly, one has to hope the stud is in the center, directly under the television, however, in most cases(and mine) it was not. From my understanding the center channel wall mount units do not include the optional 5 way binding post speaker wire connectors so I also had to come up with a way to connect the wires directly on to the bracket on the rear of the speaker itself. Luckily I had an extra television wall mount in which I used the back portion and because it was 18" long, I could bolt it onto the wall directly into studs and hang the speaker on the wall mount, in which case, I could then center the speaker properly. In my case, unfortunately, the supplied wall mount bracket/speaker connector was unusable.

I notified Axiom HO almost immediately about this issue and and in agreement, hopefully some changes with the mount will occur that will help alleviate some of these positioning problems, especially with the larger on wall center channels. Incidentally, when all is said and done, I am amazed at the technology and how close the sound is to the full size unit. Maybe we don't need those big cabinets after all.

I *was* a long-time detractor of on-walls until I installed the M2OW in my living room. As I've said many times, the M2OW offers me a wider sound-stage than the active LFR1100s in my living room. I think you are right about not needing "those big cabinets".

Reblux, use two 1/4” toggle bolts.

Super strong. We hang stuff up to 100lbs on them.

I had the same issue mounting my VP180 on-wall. I ended up mounting a 1/2" x 8" x 20" piece of plywood to the wall then attached the speaker mount to the plywood.

Yeah, if I didn't have the extra TV mount, I would have strongly considered doing that, however, the mount enables me to get the speaker a little closer to the wall and frankly even though the supplied documentation indicated as such, when I talked to Deb at the Axiom HO, she indicated the literature is incorrect and the 5 way binding posts apparently have never been part of the on-wall center channel design.

In any case, she passed on my issue to the "powers that be" and they will discuss options for a hopefully more flexible mount.

Rock, I did the same thing! 1/2" x8"x20" plywood and attached the FMB with a VP150 center channel. A few years later my VP150 fell in my TV, the stub inside the speaker ripped out. Speaker still sounds perfect though, it just sits now, no hanging!


Can you convert an OW speaker to the full metal bracket? I'm not digging the on walls right now. Maybe going to QS10s. Maybe a better fit for me. I'm finding it's tough when you're comparing OW's to the elder M50Tis.

I wouldn't recommend an OW on an FMB. The OW are designed to take advantage of the wall they are mounted to for acoustics. My M2OW sound like total garbage off the wall. Put them on the wall and geez...they sound like they were sprouted from the loins of Gods.

Hopefully my M3ow FMB ceiling mounted tops will be Close enough to get some of that bass reinforcement. From what I’ve heard they do ok mounted on FMBs and it makes them somewhat amiable. I’ll tell you when I try it.

Let me clarify. For stereo, my M2OW sound like garbage if they're not on the wall. They may be fine as surrounds though. I haven't tried them in that application.
