Hi folks For anyone with the passive 110's, have you ever measured what SPL you are getting before they distort? I am measuring with a phone app, so certainly not accurate, but I get a popping sound at around 80-83 db approx 12 feet away. Difficult to be certain but I believe it is from the mids. I am using the ADA 1500 - 4 channel, so power should not be an issue. Always noticed on the right speaker but when I isolated the left it also began to pop at higher volume. I have an old set of cerwin vegas that I swapped in and they are noticeably louder. Not what I would expect. Don't get me wrong the LFR's sound far superior to the vegas but I like it loud. Anyone have a similar experience?

Hi Mojo I didn't think there was a ver. 3 of the LFR's but I will check on my invoice to see if it gives the ver. It isn't written on the back of the speaker. They do have the white dust caps if that is any indication.

Looked at the invoice and it doesn't allude to the version either. They were purchased late 2017 if you happen to know the history of when the various versions were introduced.

The original LFRs were v3. They also had white dust caps. But if you purchased them new in 2017, they must be v4. I ask because the v4 mid-range is an improvement over the v3.
I have the active LFR1100 and don't have a similar problem. I've had them playing 116 dBC peaks at 10 feet away full range. No popping. Popping is a sign the driver is damaged or is moving beyond its limits.
I suggest you take this up with Axiom directly.
P.S. 80-83 dB at 12 feet away is not much. Likely that phone app is not good for the intended use.

The app may be in dbA not dbC.
Typically reads 10db lower depending on range. Even still, that is not very loud. Peaks of 83dbA are loud but not uncommon at moderate/high listening levels. Definitely not in the “11” zone.

Thanks Guys. Ya, I am sure the app isn't very accurate. It is loud but not Saturday night loud. Mojo...I agree, it does sound similar to the popping I have had when a sub is over extended, only at a higher frequency. I think maybe I will contact Axiom and perhaps drop it off. I would also like to get a couple of dented dust caps replaced if it isn't a major deal to do so.

Rodents in the drivers will also make a popping sound. I think you know something about that...LOL!

The over extension theory got me curious and I compared the travel of the drivers in each speaker. Oddly enough it appears the one that is popping is moving less (not just one but all drivers in that speaker). I guess this is just another reason to take it in to see the Axiom Doc
