Hey All,

Flirting with the idea of upgrading my M80v2's to something more current. Is the V4HP version a good step up? On the same subject, what about the M100 instead?

90% HT / 10% Music

Also, are there any current coupon codes for a fellow Axiomite? laugh

Minorc - I have M100 V4 I am extremely happy with them for music and HT. ADA1500 3 channel. I run the VP 180 with the 3rd channel. I have 6 channel ada 1000 running 4 QS10'S . I prefer to have more than less for my space it is probably overkill but you can never have enough. You will not be disappointed.

Chris, there is no comparison between M80v2 and M100v4. Take it from someone who has owned both. Properly placed, the M100s will give you soundstage depth and width and imaging that is simply not possible from your M80v2. They are simply better throughout the entire frequency range and have addictive mid-bass and mids.

Now, M80v4 vs M100v4 is that a night and day comparison as well or?

My room is not bad approx 25x12x10'

I have not listened to the M80v4 vs. M100v4. Only M80v2 vs. M100v4 (and all the other Axioms you see in my sig).

The soundstage and imaging will be very similar. Soundstage and imaging is very similar across all v4 Axioms. The difference between the less expensive and more expensive models is the degree of resolution in the imaging, expanse of soundstage, ability to reach lower and dynamic capability.

I would expect, judging from the frequency response curves, the M100v4 is more linear in the bass than the M80v4. Also note the M100s have more dynamic capability than the M80s. The M80s are linear to 1600W peaks while the M100s are linear to 2400W peaks.

The M100s may sound a bit better in the lower highs. They are crossed over at 2KHz whereas the M80s are crossed over at 1.8KHz. The lower cross-over on the M80s may push the tweeter closer to its self-resonance. Andrew worked to lower the resonance on the v4 tweeter but still - 200Hz closer to the resonance is 200Hz closer than the M100. BTW, this higher resonance on the M80v2 is responsible for the shrillness that you may be able to hear. I know I sure could. Thankfully the tweeters on all models that I've heard is sublime.

I haven't seen any coupon codes but there is usually some kind of a sale around October or November. If this is an acoustic emergency, call Deb. LOL!

You can trade in BTW. Did you look here? Gorgeous M80 and M100 with obviously wrong prices. Grab them now! smile

Thought my trade would have been worth a tad more.. I think I'll sit tight until I maybe scoop up a discount code... just spent a pile on a new processor.

M80HP is what I'm going to go with.

Thanks!

I think My m80s are technically ver3, but possibly some Ver2 guts in them, still unbelievably awesome sounding and detailed speakers.

Randy, unless you upgraded, you got your M80v2 before I did in Jan 2007. If so, they're totally v2.
